  • Patent number: 4591868
Abstract: A retractable motor-driven antenna 10 of compact size and light weight capable of being supported at the top of a support tube 14. A molded plastic housing 12, 30 in part forms the drive motor. A drive transmission 34 for extending and retracting the antenna mast 15 uses a timing belt 78 and pulley wheels 61, 62 and includes an overrunning clutch 84 or energy storage and release interconnection 76 between a drive pulley wheel 261 and a motor output shaft that drives a flexible cord 46 connected to the antenna mast. A switch assembly within the housing includes automatically stops the drive when the mast reaches its extended or retracted position or is obstructed. A coupling between the molded plastic housing and an antenna support tube isolates the housing from road vibration.

  • Patent number: 4550220
Abstract: An insulator for covering a splice connection joining multiple exposed conductors. The insulator has an inner foam core and an outer plastic cover which together form an elongated sleeve that fits over the splice. The cover is flexed from an open position where the sleeve fits over the splice to a closed position where two interlocking edges extending along the length of the sleeve mate to hold the insulator in place. In combination, the core and cover prevent dust and moisture from reaching the splice and also prevent exposed conductor strands at the splice from coming in contact with other circuit portions.

  • Patent number: 4531283
Abstract: A hand held splicing gun for splicing together exposed portions of a number of wires. The gun includes a frame and a trigger actuated valve that routes compressed air to two drive cylinders mounted to the frame. A first cylinder drives a pair of forming bars against a strip of splicing material. Working in conjunction with a shear block and a forming post, the bars first shear a band from the splicing material and then bend the band into a U-shape about the wires. The second drive cylinder drives a crimping bar against the band, causing the band to bend around the wires, securing them together.
