  • Publication number: 20150257472
Abstract: A helmet 100 comprises a helmet shell 16, an outer liner layer 14 fixed inside the helmet shell 16; and an inner liner layer 12 positioned against the outer liner layer 14; the outer liner layer 14 having a dome-like concave curved internal surface; the inner liner layer 12 having a dome-like convex curved external surface; the said surfaces of the inner and outer liner layers 12, 14 being substantially spherical where they overlap for allowing rotational sliding movement of the inner liner layer against the outer liner layer; means being provided for limiting rotation between the inner and outer liner layers; and at least one of the said surfaces of the inner and outer liner layers 12, 14 having recesses 18 therein for weakening the layer and for facilitating crushing of the layer when a sufficiently large radial force is applied, loosening the inner liner layer 12 within the outer liner layer 14.

  • Patent number: 8561216
Abstract: The invention provides a helmet for protecting the head of a wearer and includes a helmet body and a strap for coupling the helmet to the head, the strap being secured to the helmet body. The strap has two halves, each with a front portion for passing under the wearer's chin and a rear portion for passing around the side and rear of the wearer's head. The front portion of each strap half has an end that is secured to the helmet body at a first location at the side and the second portion has an end that is secured to the helmet body towards the rear. An elastically deformable element, such as a suction cup and/or a pad, is located in a pocket towards the end of the second portion. This provides additional grip, comfort, and security.

  • Publication number: 20060130219
Abstract: A helmet for protecting the head of a wearer includes a helmet body including an outer shell, and a strap for coupling the helmet to the head, the strap being secured to the helmet body. A piece of material is coupled to the helmet body proximate an edge surface of the helmet body and arranged to lie between the helmet body and the head of the wearer. A means is provided for attaching a portion of the strap to the piece of material at an attachment point distant from the edge surface, such that the strap adjacent the surface edge is pulled towards the head of the wearer. The piece of material is flexible, thereby allowing the attachment point to move relative to the helmet body.

  • Patent number: RE39964
Abstract: A helmet having an outer shell defining an inwardly facing surface extending to an edge of the shell, and a lining defining an outer surface facing the inwardly facing surface of the shell, an inner surface which in use faces the head of a person wearing the helmet, and an edge surface extending between the inner and outer surfaces of the lining adjacent the edge of the shell. A strap is secured to the outer shell and extends from between the inwardly facing surface of the outer shell and the outer surface of the lining. Means such as a hook and loop fastening are provided for releasably attaching a portion of the strap immediately adjacent the lining to the edge surface of the lining, such that the strap adjacent the shell edge is pulled towards the head of the wearer.
