    Abstract: A positioning assembly is provided to position a pipe machining apparatus on a pipe so that a miter cut can be performed. The pipe machining apparatus includes a frame, a tool carrier rotatably mounted to the frame, wherein the frame and tool carrier define a longitudinal central axis, a plurality of couplers equally spaced around the frame and coupled to the frame, each coupler being configured to be moved radially relative to the frame and the tool carrier to engage a surface of the pipe and further being configured to move the frame and the tool carrier parallel to the longitudinal central axis, and a scale on the tool carrier, the scale being configured to display the distance between the frame and tool carrier and the surface of the pipe.
