  • Publication number: 20040010086
Abstract: The present invention provides a TPO blend that exhibits surprisingly excellent low temperature impact resistance. The TPO blend according to the invention includes a polyolefin, a metallocene catalyzed olefinic copolymer plastomer and a lubricant package. The lubricant package includes a mixture of an internal lubricant and an external lubricant. In the preferred embodiment of the invention the polyolefin is polypropylene, the metallocene catalyzed olefinic copolymer is a metallocene catalyzed low density ethylene-octene copolymer, and the lubricant package includes a blend of ethylene bis-stearamide wax as an external lubricant and calcium stearate wax as an internal lubricant. The TPO blend according to the invention also preferably comprises optional antioxidants, UV stabilizers, and colorants.

  • Patent number: 6518344
Abstract: The present invention provides a new and improved flame retarded polyolefin composition that displays good retained physical properties upon aging. The composition also exhibits excellent moldability and it may be easily colored. In a preferred embodiment the composition includes a polyolefin, a halogen-containing flame retardant additive, from at least about 1.00% by weight to about 2.5% by weight of a stabilizer package, and from about 0% to about 1.0% by weight of an acid/halogen scavenger. The stabilizer package includes by weight from about 20% to about 80% of a hindered phenolic antioxidant, from about 20% to about 80% of a phosphite containing antioxidant, and from about 0% to about 40% of a thio-ester antioxidant. In addition to displaying excellent color and physical property development and retention characteristics, the composition of the present invention displays an improved UL94 vertical burn rating.

  • Patent number: 6011108
Abstract: A gasketing compound with low plasticizer migration comprises a polyvinyl chloride resin with an inherent viscosity at or above about 0.92 and a porosity at or above 24 cubic centimeters per gram, and a polymeric plasticizer. The gasketing compound is extruded to form a gasket which produces little or no marring of the paint surface with which the gasket is in contact.

  • Patent number: 5671967
Abstract: A sill cover article for automobiles and other vehicles which has a first, relatively rigid sill cover portion and a second, relatively flexible lower door sealing portion that is manufactured as a single component and can be attached to a vehicle in a single mounting operation. The sill cover article is preferably manufactured of two materials of different durometer which are coextruded to form a single component. The sill cover article or a portion thereof may be provided with various coatings and/or additives to provide the article with desired properties. For example, the lower door sealing portion may be provided with an ice-release agent to prevent ice from forming on a surface thereof. The sill cover article of the present invention provides a reduction in assembly time, inventory requirements and overall manufacturing costs of a vehicle.
