  • Publication number: 20220331478
Abstract: Provided herein are methods for making foam materials and foam material products having a polyurethane foam matrix defining a plurality of pores, a hydrophilic agent retained within at least a portion of the pores for improving an absorption of the foam material, a salt retained within at least a portion of the pores in an amount sufficient to render the foam material isotonic, a surfactant retained within at least a portion of the pores in an amount sufficient to be released upon contact with a moist surface. Also provided herein are methods for making a multilayer foam by casting a second foam layer on a first foam layer substrate and compressing the second foam layer before the second layer is fully cured to form an interface layer in situ.

  • Patent number: 6794554
Abstract: Wound packing material comprising a resilient polymer-based foam sheet of a predetermined thickness. The foam sheet includes at least one slit of a predetermined length that extends from the foam surface into the foam to a predetermined depth. This slit, or slits, permits the foam, when folded upon itself, to occupy a smaller volume than the foam would occupy when folded over upon itself in the same manner, but in the absence of the slit.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 1, 2001
Date of Patent: September 21, 2004
    Assignee: Ferris Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

  • Patent number: 5916928
Abstract: An apparatus suitable for the continuous preparation of a polymer-based cellular foam sheet of a predetermined thickness wherein the foam is produced from a reaction product capable of curing at ambient temperature formed by the reaction of a reactant composition including a prepolymer and water, the apparatus including: a means for reacting the reactant composition, a continuously moving substrate for receiving a quantity of the reaction product; a means for depositing the quantity of reaction product onto the substrate to form a rising foam sheet; a means for compressing the rising foam sheet to a predetermined degree, the compressing means being spaced from the depositing means; and a curing means spaced from the compressing means and providing for a rising of the foam sheet exiting from the compressing means to provide a porous foam sheet having the predetermined thickness.

  • Patent number: 5605165
Abstract: Device and related method for determining the surface area of a wound. The device includes a transparent sheet having a series of perforations defining first and second sections of the sheet which allow the first and second sections to be separated from one another along the perforations. The transparent sheet is folded along the perforations so that the two sections overlap each other, and the sections are substantially free of adhesive material. The second section includes indicia thereon which allow a user to determine the surface area of a wound after the outline of the wound or opening is traced thereon. Upon use, the device is placed over the wound or opening, with the first section toward the wound or opening, and the outline of the wound or opening is traced onto the second section.

  • Patent number: 5254301
Abstract: A continuous process for the preparation of a polymer-based foam sheet at ambient temperatures wherein the foam is produced from a reaction product capable of curing at ambient temperatures formed by the reaction of a reactant composition comprising a prepolymer, such as an isocyanate-capped polyether, and water, comprising:(a) providing a continuous substrate;(b) depositing said reaction product onto said substrate;(c) compressing said reaction subjecting said product to at least one compression of a predetermined degree after said reaction product has creamed but prior to the time said reaction product has finally cured; and(d) finally curing said reaction product.
