  • Patent number: 8257496
Abstract: A weighing system is provided for a continuous Czochralski process that accurately measures the weight of the crucible and melt during crystal growth to control the introduction of feedstock in order to keep the weight approximately constant. The system can measure the weight of the crucible while the crucible is rotating, and is insensitive to vibrations of the melt surface as well as variable torques on the crucible shaft induced by the rotation. The system also measures the weight of the crucible and its contents in order to control the amount of feedstock recharged after an ingot is withdrawn.

  • Patent number: 5328270
Abstract: An integrated bearing and pump assembly is formed by positioning a hydrodynamic pump coaxially with respect to a hydrodynamic bearing. The integrated assembly provides pressurized fluid for use within the device incorporating the bearing. The hydrodynamic pump comprises a secondary hydrodynamic bearing incorporated into the primary bearing assembly. The secondary bearing is optimized for high flow pumping applications rather than the high pressure, zero flow requirements of the primary bearing. When the bearing assembly is rotated, fluid flow is provided.

  • Patent number: 4585397
Abstract: A pump includes a pair of circular metal bellows rigidly secured to the pump housing at the perimeter of their accordion-like ring structures and interconnected at their centers so as to be capable of flexing in phase. An electrical coil is attached to the interconnected bellows and is axially movable with the bellows. The coil is surrounded by a permanent magnet structure secured to the pump housing. Each bellows communicates with an associated fluid chamber which has a valve structure for the inlet and outlet of fluid. The coil is electrically connected to an alternating current power supply, the connection being made through the electrically conductive bellows. The bellows flex in phase in the presence of the alternating current to the coil and thus alternately pull fluid in and force fluid out of the respective fluid chambers. Since the fluid chambers are connected to a common fluid output and since the bellows axially flex in phase, there are two pressure pulses per pump cycle.

  • Patent number: 4334656
Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically threading web material, e.g., magnetic tape, from a replaceable supply reel to a non-replaceable take-up reel of a web transport device, in which the web path is nonlinear and relatively complex as a result of various components, e.g., magnetic transducer tape guides, which act on the web while it is being transported. The apparatus comprises a coupling device and a mechanism for moving and guiding the coupling device between the supply reel and the take-up reel. The coupling device couples to a leader block attached to the tape at the supply reel. The mechanism moves and guides the coupling device to thread the tape over the predefined tape path and positions the leader block wholly within a radially disposed slot in the hub of the take-up reel. The coupling device remains attached to the moving mechanism and coupled to the leader block when the leader block is rotated with the take-up reel.
