  • Patent number: 5393559
Abstract: A process for reinforcing paving in which a second layer of paving is placed on top of a first layer. The process includes selecting a semi-rigid, open grid reinforcement of multi-filament reinforcing strands being fixed at cross-over points, the grid being in the form of a roll, a resin being applied to the strands of the grid and an activatable adhesive being applied on the resin to one side of the grid, continuously unrolling the grid, adhesive side down, essentially directly, evenly and flatly onto the first layer of paving, while maintaining the respective strands of the grid in substantially parallel alignment, activating the adhesive by applying one of heat and pressure to adhere the grid to the first paving layer and substantially eliminate bubbles, raised portions or sideways distortion of the strands of the grid during application of the second layer and applying the second layer of paving on top of the grid and the first layer.

  • Patent number: 5246306
Abstract: A reinforcement for asphaltic pavings comprises a prefabricated resin impregnated, adhesive coated grid of continuous glass fibers. The grid is laid on top of an underlying paving and adhered to it. An asphaltic paving layer is then applied on top of the grid.

  • Patent number: 5189769
Abstract: A method of making a multi-layer non-woven multiple biased fabric is disclosed. A layer of fabric is directed in a longitudinal direction of travel, wherein the layer of fabric is comprised of a plurality of structural fibers oriented substantially parallel to each other and oriented at an angle to the longitudinal center line of the fabric. The layer of fabric may or may not be previously biased. If not previously biased, then the structural yarns of the fabric are biased in a biasing stage to form a layer of single bias structural fabric having the structural fibers biased to the fabric centerline. The single biased fabric layer is led into at least one folding stage for folding the biased layer longitudinally from one edge toward another to form a multiple biased fabric. The multiple biased fabric is led from the at least one folding stage into an affixing stage for affixing the multiple biased fabric together to provide a single structural fabric being multiple biased.

  • Patent number: 5110627
Abstract: Disclosed is a process for making a reinforcement for asphaltic paving. The process includes selecting an open grid including two sets of parallel strands of continuous filament fibers, the grid having openings between adjacent strands and the two sets of strands being substantially perpendicular to each other, impregnating the strands of the grid with a resin and applying to one side of the resin-impregnated grid a coating of stable, activatable adhesive without closing the openings between the strands, the adhesive being compatible with asphaltic paving.

  • Patent number: 4989529
Abstract: A multiple biased structural fabric and a method for making the same, are disclosed. In a preferred embodiment, double biased structural farbic is produced using the novel method. Single biased fabric made up of structural yarns held together by secondary yarns is fed through a folding machine. The single biased fabric folded onto itself in the folding machine presents two layers of single biased fabric in the form of a double biased fabric. This fabric is then fed to a stitching machine. The stitching machine knits or sews the two layers of fabric together to produce the double biased fabric of the instant invention.
