  • Publication number: 20230248595
Abstract: It is known to provide a seat for disabled users with postural care needs where the incline of the seat is adjustable. A problem with such seats is that the incline adjustment mechanism is not particularly smooth or easy to use. To address this, there is a seat having a backrest, a base for receiving the posterior of a human user and an incline adjuster. The incline adjuster has an unevenly curved track 6 and at least a pair of spaced brackets 27 each supporting rollers 16. The incline adjuster is adapted to be activated so that at least one of the brackets 27 is able to tilt with respect to the other while the track 6 runs on the rollers 16 and the brackets are at differently curved parts of the track, to adjust the incline of the backrest and base.

  • Publication number: 20230105633
Abstract: A wheelchair is described herein, including wheels, a support frame that engages with the wheels, a seat base fitted to the support frame, and suspension between the frame and the seat base, wherein the seat base is adapted to move with respect to the support frame when a human occupant is seated on the seat base such that the suspension dampens body weight force between the seat base and the support frame.

  • Patent number: 11122899
Abstract: A seat is disclosed herein having a backrest, a base for receiving a posterior of a human user, and an incline adjuster having a shaft, a lever, a follower, and a rack the shaft being moveable to swing the lever to cause a follower into or out of locking engagement with the rack, an arrangement being such that when the follower is in an unlocked disposition the rack can move to adjust an incline of the backrest and the base.

  • Patent number: 10973330
Abstract: In a preferred form the invention there is a lateral support forming part of a seat of a wheelchair, comprising a bracket (1), a hinge body (2), a forward plate (3) having padding and a lever (17). The lever (17) is arranged so it can be turned by hand to move a bolt (18) into a pin (5) whereby the hinge body is prevented from swinging about the pin. The lever (17) is also arranged so it can be subsequently turned by hand to cause a cam face (21) of the lever to ride along a complimentary engaging surface (22) of the hinge body. This forces the bolt (18) from the pin (5) thereby freeing the hinge body (2) to swing about the pin (5) and, as a consequence, to swing the plate (3) to facilitate access to the seat.

  • Patent number: 10945901
Abstract: The invention relates to means for releasably connecting a wheelchair backrest to a wheelchair frame. This is desirable to facilitate collapse of the wheelchair for transport or storage. In the preferred embodiment there is a wheelchair having a support frame, a backrest (16) and connector comprising a saddle (1) and a clamp (17). The saddle has a slot (3) with top and front openings and a locking lever (7). Two pins (12) are received in the slot so they extend through the front opening, and the lever (7) is able to move to divide the slot into top and bottom zones so that a lower one of the pins is prevented from being withdrawn from the slot via the top opening by the lever. The lever can then be moved to unblock the lower pin and allow the slot (3) and the pins (12) to be dissociated.

  • Publication number: 20170087037
Abstract: A torso support for a seat, having: a padding base 2; an outer link 3; an inner link 4; a U shaped clamp 6; a release button 5; a pivot pin 7; and a seat attachment bracket 8. The inner link 4 has a space housing the button 5. The button 5 can be pressed so it pivots between locking and unlocking dispositions. When in the locking disposition, the inner edge 13 of the button is close to a short arm of the clamp so they are almost abutting. This prevents the inner link 14 pivoting because to move in that way would cause a clash between the inner edge of the clamp 6 and the button 5.
