Abstract: A method for oiling leather and skins by impregnating the leather and skins with partial esters of cyclic polycarboxylic acids or (partial) anhydrides with monofunctional fatty alcohols and optionally fixing the partial esters in the leather. Aqueous dispersions or emulsions of the cyclic polycarboxylic and/or (partial) anhydrides partial esters are also disclosed.

Abstract: Aqueous dispersions containing special aminopropionic acid derivatives and co-oligomers based on fatty crotonates are suitable for the oiling of leather. The leathers thus treated are distinguished by high resistance to washing and cleaning and by impermeability to water.

Abstract: An aqueous dispersion of amphiphilic co-oligomers for oiling leather or skins wherein the dispersion contains co-oligomers of(a) fatty crotonates,(b) radical-copolymerizable, hydrophilic, ethylenically unsaturated acids, anhydrides and mixtures thereof, wherein the weight ratio of (a):(b) is 30-90%:70-10%, based on the weight of (a)+(b), the dispersion having an active substance content in the range from about 30-70% by weight, based on the weight of the dispersion, and optionally(c) copolymerizable comonomers having neither a pronounced hydrophobicizing effect nor containing hydrophilicizing groups.

Abstract: The invention is a process for oiling of leather and skins which imparts washing and dry-cleaning resistance to the treated leather and skins and a composition useful in the process. The washing and dry-cleaning resistance of leather is improved by impregnating the leather with an aqueous dispersion of a co-oligomer containing residues of a partial ester of maleic acid and acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid and optionally up to 45% by weight of residues of ether hydmphilic and oleophilic monomers. The composition can contain semiesters of sulfosuccinic acid as additional oiling agents.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a composition and process for inhibiting fatty spew on leather comprising an oiling component in combination with a Guerbet alcohol having the general formula I:R.sup.1 --CH(CH.sub.2 OH)--R.sup.2 (I)wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, independently of one another represent an alkyl group containing from 6 to 12 carbon atoms, and wherein the total number of carbon atoms per Guerbet alcohol molecule is in the range from 16 to 24.

Abstract: The invention concerns a method of preparing preferably highly concentrated aluminum triformate solutions containing alkali metals and/or alkaline earth metals, by the neutralization of an alkaline aluminate solution containing alkali metals and/or alkaline earth metals by adding formic acid, and subsequently heating the solid precipitated to give a clear, stable aluminum triformate solution. Abstract: The present invention relates to a fatty spew inhibiting composition for leather comprising an oiling component in combination with a dialkyl ether additive corresponding to general formula II:R.sup.3 --O--R.sup.4 (II)wherein R.sup.3 and R.sup.4, independently of one another represent an alkyl group containing 1 to 32 carbon atoms, the alkyl group being saturated or unsaturated, linear or branched, and the dialkyl ether additive having a total number of carbon atoms per ether molecule in the range from 14 to 36.

Abstract: Described is the use of at least substantially storage-stable supersaturated and acidified aqueous solutions of mixtures of aluminum triformate and alkali-metal and/or alkaline-earth formates as a means of supplying a water-dissolved mineral tanning agent based on aluminum formate for the tanning of leather and/or hides using little or no chromium. The invention thus concerns, in particular, storage-stabilized supersaturated and acidified aqueous solutions of this kind which also contain small quantities of stabilizers, preferred stabilizers being 1,2,3,4-butanetetracarboxylic acid and/or xanthane gum. The invention also concerns the use of such stabilized supersaturated aqueous forms of aluminum triformate solutions for use as tanning auxiliaries with a fixing and/or tanning action in the tanning or finishing of leather and hides.
