  • Patent number: 4871783
Abstract: Modified polyols having the formula R.sub.m SiXx.sub.4-m wherein m=1 to 3, X is an alkoxy group and at least one R group is either HS--R.sup.1 -- or HS--(SiR.sup.2.sub.2 O).sub.n -- are described. The modified polyols, when mixed with base polyol, are used in the manufacture of graft polymer polyols having low viscosity and good filtrability. The graft polymer polyol can be used in the manufacture of polyurethane foam.

  • Patent number: 4859810
Abstract: A composition suitable for use as an electrical insulation comprises a polymeric component and a water-tree retardant additive which is either an organo orthoborate of partial ester of boric acid having the formula B(OR) (OR.sup.1) (OR.sup.2) or an organo orthoborate or partial ester of boric acid with a polyhydric hydrocarbyl alcohol.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4723026
Abstract: A novel family of modified polyols suitable for use in the preparation of fluid polymer/polyols. The modified polyols are the reaction product obtained by reacting a silicon atom containing compound with an unmodified polyol, the silicon atom compound being one which has (a) at least olefinically unsatured hydrocarbyl group and (b) at least one functional group which is reactable with the hydroxy groups on the polyol. Examples of such silicon atom containing compounds include vinyltriethoxysilane and vinyltrimethoxysilane. Modified polyols of the type described are particularly useful in the preparation of polymer/polyols containing high levels of polymer since they reduce the viscosity of the final polymer/polyol and decrease the tendency of the polymer/polyol to produce polymer sediment.
