  • Publication number: 20210194621
Abstract: Systems, apparatuses and methods described herein provide a method for padding a signal extension of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols. A transceiver may obtain a plurality of data symbols for transmission, and determine that a number of information bits for a last symbol of the plurality of data symbols is not an integer value. A special padding rule may be applied to add padding bits to the last symbol. A number of coded bits for the last symbol may be determined when the number of information bits for the last symbol has changed, and the plurality of data symbols for data transmission may be encoded based on the determined number of coded bits for the last symbol.

  • Patent number: 11044669
Abstract: A communication device generates a first portion of a wakeup packet that corresponds to a legacy physical layer protocol (PHY) preamble, and includes a first orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol that spans a first bandwidth and is modulated according to a modulation scheme. The communication device scrambles a plurality of information bits to generate scrambled information bits, and generates a second OFDM symbol to include the scrambled information bits. The second OFDM symbol spans the first bandwidth and is modulated according to the modulation scheme to signal to other communication devices that the wakeup packet does not conform to a communication protocol. The first communication device generates a second portion of the wakeup packet, which corresponds to a second bandwidth that is less than the first bandwidth. The communication device transmits the second OFDM symbol between the first portion of the wakeup packet and the second portion of the wakeup packet.

  • Publication number: 20210160959
Abstract: A data unit comprising bits to transmit over one or more frequency segments in a frequency range is obtained. An effective bandwidth in each frequency segment of the frequency range is determined, where the effective bandwidth excludes bandwidth of one or more punctured subchannels in a respective frequency segment. Bits are encoded based on the effective bandwidth of each frequency segment followed by parsing the encoded bits to one or more streams and parsing the encoded bits of a stream to the one or more frequency segments. The parsing of the encoded bits of the stream comprises allocating a first number of consecutive encoded bits to a first frequency segment and allocating a second number of consecutive encoded bits to a second frequency segment, wherein the first number and the second number are based on the effective bandwidth of the first frequency segment and the second frequency segment. The encoded bits are modulated and mapped to subcarriers for transmission.

  • Patent number: 10904058
Abstract: A boundary within a last orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol of a PHY data unit is determined. Pre-encoder padding bits are added to a set of information bits to generate a set of padded information bits such that the set of padded information bits, after being encoded, fill one or more OFDM symbols up to the boundary within the last OFDM symbol. The set of padded information bits are encoded to generate a set of coded bits. A PHY preamble is generated to include a subfield that indicates the boundary. The one or more OFDM symbols are generated to include (i) the set of coded information bits in the one or more OFDM symbols up to the boundary to allow a receiving device to stop decoding the one or more OFDM symbols at the boundary, and (ii) post-encoder padding bits in the last OFDM symbol following the boundary.

  • Publication number: 20200404680
Abstract: A communication device determines that simultaneous transmission and reception via multiple frequency segments in a WLAN is not permitted. The communication device transmits a first packet in a first frequency segment beginning at a first time, and transmits a second packet in a second frequency segment beginning at a second time that is different than the first time. Transmission of the second packet overlaps in time with transmission of the first packet. In response to having determined that simultaneous transmission and reception via multiple frequency segments is not permitted, the communication device includes in the first packet padding so that an end of transmission of the first packet occurs at a same time as an end of transmission of the second packet.
