    Abstract: A method and device for sterilizing an object in a dual-purpose household appliance such as microwave ovens, dishwashers, laundry machines, etc. The device includes a housing unit having a chamber for containing the object to be sterilized, an ultraviolet light source positioned outside the chamber and an exposure panel of a fixed, retractable, or flip open design, the exposure panel enabling the ultraviolet light source to emit ultraviolet radiation onto the object to be sterilized.
