  • Patent number: 5199664
Abstract: A fishing reel having a drag brake is disclosed which has a line receiving pool which is allowed to run free when the drag brake is disengaged. The drag brake is located at an opposite end of the fishing reel housing from the spool and acts on a spindle of the spool at that point. In the vicinity of the spool, a disengageable connection is provided for connecting the spool to a spindle of the fishing reel. The clutch is engaged by rotation of a driving handle. Further provided is an over-run brake located in the vicinity of the spool which acts between the spool and the spindle only upon relative rotation of the spool with respect to the spindle when the drag brake is disengaged. Further included are push rods which, upon displacement, causes disengagement of the spool from the spindle and pawls, carried by a ring surrounding the spindle, which may engage various spaced teeth formed integral with a bush fixed to a rotor of the fishing reel.

  • Patent number: 4884761
Abstract: A line bail is pivotally mounted on a reel part rotatable about the longitudinal axis of a fishing reel. The line bail is formed of a fiber reinforced plastics material and is elongated in the direction of the longitudinal axis, that is, in its pivoting direction. As compared to its sides extending in the elongated direction, the ends of the bail are narrow. A fishing line on the reel glides over one end of the bail as the bail pivots from a released position to a line capturing position. The one end is rounded with a radius of curvature which is as large as possible and it is formed of a smooth surfaced wear resistant plastics material.

  • Patent number: 4715554
Abstract: A spool for a supply of fishing line is disclosed which serves too minimize the amount of twist imparted to the line as it is withdrawn from the spool onto a fishing reel. A cylindrical portion, about which the fishing line is wound on the spool, has radial flanges having different shapes so as to permit withdrawal of the line over only one flange periphery. The line may be effectively withdrawn from the spool only over the circular flange, but not over the opposite flange, which has a non-circular shape. Any twist imparted to the fishing line during its withdrawal is substantially compensated by the winding of the line about the fishing reel.
