  • Patent number: 5438864
Abstract: A method of using a fluorescent fluid on a cell-engraved surface, such as an anilox roll, to determine the volumetric capacity of the cell-engraved surface by having the amount of electromagnetic radiation emitted by the exciting of the fluorescent fluid substantially proportional to the volume of the fluorescent fluid in the cells.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 25, 1993
Date of Patent: August 8, 1995
    Assignee: Praxair S.T. Technology, Inc.
    Inventor: Russell M. Morgan
  • Patent number: 5221562
Abstract: The invention relates to a liquid transfer article, such as a printing roll, having a laser-engraved coated surface comprised of wells adapted to receive a liquid and land areas adapted to be wiped free of any liquid prior to contacting a receiving surface so that only the liquid in the wells are transferred. The land areas of the coated surface have a density of greater than 95% theoretical and a roughness of less than 6 micro-inches R.sub.a to insure that any unwanted liquid on the land areas can be wiped clean prior to contacting a receiving surface. The invention also relates to a method for producing the liquid transfer article.

  • Patent number: 5089683
Abstract: A constant length laser device for use with laser generating means comprising a first moveable optical reflector carriage for deflecting a laser beam 180.degree. onto a spaced apart second moveable optical carriage which further deflects the laser beam 90.degree. onto a workpiece, such as a printing roll, to be laser treated and wherein the first and second carriages are synchronized to move in the same direction with the first carriage moving at a speed one half that of the second carriage so as to produce a constant length laser beam.
