  • Patent number: 8049558
Abstract: A switchable balanced amplifier having multiple, configurable independent input/output paths. Switching networks coupled to the input and/or output quadrature couplers of the balanced amplifier are used to configurably direct any of one or more input signals to any of one or more output ports. In one example, each output port is coupled to circuitry tailored to a specific type of input signal, operating protocol and/or operating frequency band.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 7, 2008
Date of Patent: November 1, 2011
    Assignee: Skyworks Solutions, Inc.
Inventors: Russell Wyse, James P. Young

  • Patent number: 7795966
Abstract: According to an exemplary embodiment, a balanced amplifier includes an in-phase amplifier coupled to a first input port of an output coupler and a quadrature amplifier coupled to a second input port of the output coupler. The balanced amplifier further includes an impedance termination coupled to an isolated port of the output coupler. The balanced amplifier further includes a protection circuit coupled to the isolated port of the output coupler and configured to limit an amount of power applied across the impedance termination. The balanced amplifier further includes an input coupler having a first output port coupled to an input of the in-phase amplifier and a second output port coupled to an input of the quadrature amplifier.

  • Patent number: 7477101
Abstract: According to an exemplary embodiment, an amplification module includes a bias circuit coupled to an input of an amplifier, where the bias circuit is configured to charge the input of the amplifier to a final bias voltage. The amplification module further includes a fast charge circuit configured to provide a low impedance path between the bias circuit and the input of the amplifier when a voltage at the input of the amplifier is less than the final bias voltage, thereby reducing an enable time of the amplifier. The fast charge circuit is further configured to open the low impedance path when the voltage at the input of the amplifier is substantially equal to the final bias voltage. The fast charge circuit includes a comparator configured to cause the low impedance path to open when the voltage at the input of the amplifier is substantially equal to a reference voltage.

  • Patent number: 6894476
Abstract: An exemplary coupler detector circuit comprises a coupler, a detector circuit, and a harmonic tank. The coupler has a transmission line electromagnetically coupled to a coupled line, and the coupled line has an isolated node and a coupled node. The transmission line may, for example, be a 50 ohm RF line for transmitting RF energy. The detector circuit is connected to the coupled node and is configured to detect a power transmitted along the transmission line. The harmonic tank is connected to the coupled node, and is configured to short to ground at least one harmonic signal transmitted along the coupled node.
