  • Patent number: 5436294
Abstract: Impact-modified polyphthalamide resins are improved in ductility and rigidity when blended with polypropylene and a carboxylated polyolefin resin. The blends exhibit an excellent balance of ductility and rigidity.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: July 25, 1995
    Assignee: Amoco Corporation
Inventors: Glenn P. Desio, Ruth A. Montag, George A. Corbin
  • Patent number: 5387645
Abstract: Filled and unfilled polyamide compositions of improved toughness comprise a blend of a polyamide comprising recurring aliphatic terephthalamide units, a functionalized polyolefin and a functionalized block copolymer comprising styrene polymer blocks and rubber blocks comprising ethylene/propylene ethylene/butylene or ethylene/pentylene polymer blocks or a combination thereof.

  • Patent number: 5104845
Abstract: The preparation, structure, and properties of solid inorganic materials containing aluminum, boron, oxygen and at least one metallo element selected from Group IA of the Periodic Table is described. Also described is the use of such materials in catalytic compositions for the conversion of organic compounds. In particular, the new materials having the general formula:(x) M.sub.2 O.(y) Al.sub.2 O.sub.3.(z) B.sub.2 O.sub.3where M is at least one metallo element selected from Group IA of the Periodic Table having atomic number from 11 through 55, inclusive, and x, y and z are numbers representing molar amounts of the oxides are described as well as the use of such materials in various catalyzed processes including synthesis of methacrylic acid.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 22, 1988

    Assignee: Amoco Corporation
Inventors: Ruth A. Montag, Larry C. Satek
  • Patent number: 4990662
Abstract: Catalyst and process are disclosed for the improved preparation of alpha, beta-unsaturated acids. The catalyst comprises a porous silica gel component and a Group IA alkali metal component, which is present in an amount of from 200 to 20,000 parts per million and optionally another component such as tin (IV) oxide, and mixtures thereof. The process comprises reacting formaldehyde and an aliphatic carboxylic acid in the presence of said catalyst while maintaining catalyst activity and selectivity during the process by addition of a source of the alkali metal component.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 27, 1987
Date of Patent: February 5, 1991
    Assignee: Amoco Corporation
Inventors: Gary P. Hagen, Ruth A. Montag
  • Patent number: 4845070
Abstract: A particulate catalyst, especially suitable for condensation of an alpha, beta-ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid with formaldehyde, is disclosed. The catalyst comprises a catalyst support constituted by porous silica gel, and cesium ions in the +1 oxidation state on the catalyst support surface. The catalyst support has a surface area of about 50 to about 150 m.sup.2 /gram, a porosity of less than about 1 cm.sup.3 /gram, and a pore-size distribution such that less than about 10 percent of the pores present in the catalyst have a pore diameter greater than about 750 Angstroms. The cesium ions are present in an amount of about 4 to about 10 percent by weight, based on the weight of the catalyst. Also disclosed are methods of making the catalyst. One method contemplates combining, with agitation, a silica sol and a cesium compound able to provide cesium in the +1 oxidation state on the catalyst support surface. The silica sol has a silica particle diameter of about 50 to about 200 Angstroms.
