  • Patent number: 9630797
Abstract: The container may hold a material, such as, plastic wrap. The first container portion may include a first leg with an engagement member. The engagement member may engage the second leg during the cutting process. In addition, the engagement member may disengage from the second leg during or after the cutting process. When the user wishes to cut the material, the user pushes down on the first container portion. The material is held between the engagement member and the second leg at a first location. The third leg may assist in holding the material at a second location. The holding of the material in tension may facilitate the cutting of the material. As the user continues to push down on the first container portion, the engagement member disengages from the second leg. The user can remove the portion of material without opening the first container portion.

  • Patent number: 9132938
Abstract: A plastic bag with flexible sidewalls defining an interior volume for holding contents includes a reinforcing feature to resist puncture and/or rupture of the bag. The reinforcing feature may include reinforcing the portion of the bag proximate the bottom edge with additional or thicker thermoplastic material. In various embodiments, the reinforcing feature may be a multilayer strip of plastic material attached along a bottom edge of the bag, either internally or externally, to provide additional material resistant to puncture. The reinforcing feature may be adhesively bonded, heat bonded, or cold bonded to the bag sidewalls. In other embodiments, the sheet material used to produce the bag may be made with varying thicknesses. In addition, methods of manufacturing a bag with such reinforcing features in a high speed automated process are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8118190
Abstract: A container 100 includes a cover 102 and a base 104. The container cover 102 includes a first closure portion, an engagement portion 208, and an alignment portion. The base 104 includes a second closure portion. The first closure portion of the cover 104 is sealingly engageable with the second closure portion of the base 104 to define a sealed storage area. The covers 102 stack together in two different ways. First, the covers 102 can be stacked into an “aligned” stack. Second, the covers 102 can be stacked into a releasably locked stack. The alignment portion of the cover 102 is engageable with the alignment portion of a second cover 602 to form an aligned cover stack. The engagement portion 208 of the cover 102 includes one or more engagement lugs 424 that are engageable with corresponding engagement lugs 624 of the engagement portion 608 of a second cover 602 to form a releasably locked cover stack 750.

  • Publication number: 20100263328
Abstract: A storage container for storing and preserving food items includes a base providing a storage cavity and an attachable lid. To evacuate air from the storage cavity after the base and lid have been attached, the storage container may include a one-way valve element communicating with the storage cavity. The overall storage container can be sufficiently rigid so that it has an initial size and volume when in its un-evacuated condition. During evacuation, the air pressure within the storage cavity is reduced compared to the air pressure of the surrounding environment. This pressure differential can result in a compressive force being applied about the container. At least one of the base or lid can be made relatively flexible so that, when evacuated, the volume of the storage container is reduced.

  • Publication number: 20100237070
Abstract: A storage container for storing food items includes a base providing a storage cavity accessible by an opening and a detachable lid for covering the opening and enclosing the storage cavity. The lid may include a one-way valve to facilitate evacuation of the storage cavity after the lid has been attached. To provide a substantially air tight seal between the base and lid, a sealing member is included. The sealing member can be comprised of any suitable resilient material such as a thermoplastic elastomer. The sealing member can be integrally bonded to either the base or the lid by, for example, an overmolding process or a co-extrusion process.

  • Publication number: 20100200588
Abstract: A thin-walled vacuum storage container made of a plastic material may have a base providing a storage cavity and a detachable lid connectable to the base for covering the storage cavity. To evacuate the storage cavity, the container also includes a valve element communicating with the storage cavity and that may be adapted to interface with a vacuum device. The base and/or the lid can have at least one wall made by a thin-wall manufacturing process wherein the wall thickness is about 2.5 millimeters or less. Alternately, the base and/or lid can have at least one wall with a flow-length-to-wall-thickness ratio of about 90:1 or greater.

  • Publication number: 20100181317
Abstract: Container having a cover and a base that may be engaged with each other with the help of a releasable engagement member is provided. The cover includes a leash as the releasable engagement member. The leash comprises a protrusion. The base comprises a depression located at a position corresponding to the position of the leash on the cover. When the cover is placed over the base, the protrusion of the leash of the cover may be lockingly engaged with the depression of the base. In addition, a protrusion of the leash of one cover may be engaged with a depression of the leash of a second cover, when it is desired to stack the covers together, separate from their bases.

  • Publication number: 20100170824
Abstract: The container can be locked into a stack of containers. A container cover locks onto the top of a container base to define a sealed area for storage. Additionally, the bottom of a second container base can be locked onto the top of the cover of a first container. In this fashion, when closed containers are stacked, they form a locked stack that is more structurally rigid and therefore less precarious than a traditional, non-locked container stack. When not in use, the bases can be formed into a nested stack, and their covers can be locked together to form a locked cover stack. The locked cover stack can be locked to either the top or bottom of the nested base stack to form a rigid stack. In some embodiments, a cover can be turned upside down and its bottom face locked onto the bottom face of a base.
