  • Patent number: 8880402
Abstract: A speech recognition method includes receiving input speech from a user, processing the input speech to obtain at least one parameter value, and determining an experience level of the user using the parameter value(s). The method can also include prompting the user based upon the determined experience level of the user to assist the user in delivering speech commands.

  • Patent number: 8213861
Abstract: A method of communicating information that has been formatted for Internet publication from a principal vehicle using short range wireless communication components to communicate with a second vehicle. The method includes storing a web page (blog, social networking page, etc.) or other information formatted for Internet publication in the principal vehicle. An introductory signal is transmitted to the second vehicle. A communication link is established between the principal vehicle and the second vehicle using the respective short range wireless communication components. The second vehicle is then queried for authorization to transmit the information and, if given, the information is then transmitted to the second vehicle via the communications link. User-selected categories can be used to identify common interests between users of the two vehicles. The method can be used to share user information with other potentially interested drivers to facilitate human interactions and relationships.

  • Patent number: 7865282
Abstract: A method of managing communications for an in-vehicle telematics system includes substantially simultaneously receiving requests for communicating first and second audio signals via a vehicle audio system. The signals respectively correspond to interactive voice services (provided via a menu dialogue) from a first in-vehicle system and to a first audio messaging from a second in-vehicle system. An arbitration control selects one of the signals as a priority output and the other as a subordinate output. The priority output is provided over the audio system. A queue manager maintains the subordinate output in a queue for outputting over the audio system after priority output completion. If the first signal is the subordinate output, then the queue manager maintains a state of the menu dialogue, as of a time the priority output is selected, for continuation of the menu dialogue from the maintained state after priority output completion.

  • Publication number: 20080143497
Abstract: A method and apparatus controls a communication mode of a mobile unit. Steps include detecting in the mobile unit an emergency signal; commencing a process of establishing communication from the mobile unit to a remote center in response to the detected emergency signal; providing an input prompt to a vehicle operator during the process of establishing communication with the remote center, wherein the input prompt requests response from the vehicle operator indicative of a status of emergency; canceling the communication if the response indicates there is no emergency; and completing the process of establishing communication from the mobile unit to the remote center if the canceling is not achieved.
