Publication number: 20140192227Abstract: A method for generating a glare-reduced image from images captured by a camera device of a subject vehicle includes obtaining a short-exposure image and a long-exposure image and generating a resulting high dynamic range image based on the short-exposure and long-exposure images. Pixel values are monitored within both the short- and long-exposure images. A light source region is identified within both the short- and long-exposure images based on the monitored pixel values. A glaring region is identified based on the identified light source region and one of calculated pixel ratios and calculated pixel differences between the monitored pixel values of the long- and short-exposure images. The identified glaring region upon the resulting high dynamic range image is modified with the identified light source region within the short-exposure image. The glare-reduced image is generated based on the modified identified glaring region upon the resulting HDR image.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 30, 2013Publication date: July 10, 2014Applicant: GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS LLCInventors: WENDE ZHANG, JINSONG WANG, KENT S. Publication number: 20140111637Abstract: A vehicle imaging system includes an image capture device capturing an image exterior of a vehicle. The captured image includes at least a portion of a sky scene. A processor generates a virtual image of a virtual sky scene from the portion of the sky scene captured by the image capture device. The processor determines a brightness of the virtual sky scene from the virtual image. The processor dynamically adjusts a brightness of the captured image based the determined brightness of the virtual image. A rear view mirror display device displays the adjusted captured image.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 8, 2013Publication date: April 24, 2014Applicant: GM Global Technology Operations LLCInventors: Wende Zhang, Jinsong Wang, Kent S. Publication number: 20140070772Abstract: A system and method for individually discharging battery cells in a high voltage vehicle battery. The system includes a battery controller that monitors and controls the state-of-charge of each of the battery cells and a cell balancing circuit for maintaining the charge of the cells substantially equal. The controller receives a signal from a vehicle crash detector indicating that the vehicle has been in a crash, and in response instructs the cell balancing circuit to discharge all of the battery cells.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 12, 2012Publication date: March 13, 2014Applicant: GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS LLCInventors: Peter Andres, Ryan M. Patent number: 8258747Abstract: A method and system for identifying individual cell monitoring controllers in an electric vehicle battery pack. Several cell monitoring controllers are serially connected to each other and to a master battery pack controller via a signal line, which is also used for communicating alarm signals between the controllers. The master battery pack controller sends a wake-up signal on the signal line. The first cell monitoring controller in the signal line wiring route receives the wake-up signal and receives an identification number from the master battery pack controller. Only then does the first cell monitoring controller allow the wake-up signal to be passed along to the second cell monitoring controller, which activates and receives its identification number, and so forth. In this way, identical cell monitoring controllers can be used in a battery pack, yet each cell monitoring controller can be uniquely identified by the master battery pack controller.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 2010Date of Patent: September 4, 2012Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLCInventors: Peter Andres, Ryan M. Patent number: 7030745Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for detecting when a spare wheel (SP) is used to replace a previously rolling wheel on a vehicle, where each wheel can transmit wheel ID and motion status signals. The apparatus comprises a receiver, a memory for storing information relating wheel ID and location, a processor coupled to the receiver and memory for analyzing the wheel signals to determine if the SP is rolling, and a timer coupled to the processor that measures how long the SP has been rolling. When the SP has been rolling for predetermined time T, the processor looks at the motion status signals from remaining wheels to determine which is stopped, and then modifies the information stored in the memory to associate the SP ID with the wheel location formerly occupied by the now stopped wheel and associate the stopped-wheel ID with the storage location for the spare.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 2004Date of Patent: April 18, 2006Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: Thomas E. Patent number: 6810727Abstract: A dual placard algorithm implemented in a tire pressure monitoring system which responds to tire inflation changes caused by the driver, and is thereby able to allow the tire pressure monitoring system to detect low tire pressure in dual placard applications. The algorithm automatically sets the threshold appropriate for a high placard pressure recommendation in the event the driver has inflated the rear tires to the high placard pressure recommendation. If the driver subsequently changes the rear tire pressure to the low placard pressure recommendation, the dual placard algorithm alerts the driver to manually enter a learn mode, whereupon the algorithm automatically re-sets the threshold to that appropriate for the low placard pressure recommendation only if the driver has deflated both rear tires to the low placard tire pressure recommendation.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 2003Date of Patent: November 2, 2004Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: Michael Allan Davis, Thomas H. Tu, Ryan M. Frakes, Stephen C. Kirsch
