  • Publication number: 20240121374
Abstract: A three-dimensional display device includes a display, a barrier, and a controller. The display displays a parallax image including a right-eye viewing image and a left-eye viewing image. The barrier defines a traveling direction of image light of the parallax image. The controller causes a black image to appear between the right-eye viewing image and the left-eye viewing image based on a parallax value of the parallax image.

  • Publication number: 20240048680
Abstract: A three-dimensional display device includes a liquid crystal panel, a first optical panel, and a second optical panel. The three-dimensional display device may further include a backlight and a controller. The first optical panel and the second optical panel define a traveling direction of incident light.

  • Patent number: 11874464
Abstract: A head-up display includes a display panel, a parallax barrier, an optical system including a reflector and an optical member, and a controller. The optical system projects a virtual image of an image displayed by the display panel onto a virtual image plane. The controller controls the display panel such that first second images which have a parallax with each other are projected as a three-dimensional image in a field of view of the user, and a convergence angle at which the user views a point on the three-dimensional image is equal to or less than a maximum convergence angle which is greater by 0.43 degrees than a convergence angle for viewing a point on the virtual image plane and is equal to or greater than a minimum convergence angle which is less by 0.43 degrees than the convergence angle for viewing a point on the virtual image plane.

  • Publication number: 20230176422
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device prevents light leakage in a black display of a projected image when a light source reaches a higher temperature, and displays a high-quality image without any lost sense of reality. The device includes a light-transmissive liquid crystal display element including two glass substrates and a liquid crystal layer sealed between the glass substrates, a backlight device that emits light toward one glass substrate in the liquid crystal display element, an emission-light polarizing plate on the other glass substrate, an incident-light polarizing plate on the one glass substrate, and a polarizer being a plate and including a base layer including a glass substrate and a metal layer stacked on the base layer and having a polarization function. The polarizer is located with the base layer facing the incident-light polarizing plate. The base layer is thicker than each of the glass substrates.

  • Publication number: 20230001790
Abstract: A first input unit in a head-up display obtains a distance to an object. A second input unit obtains a user's eye position. An optical system projects, into the user's field of view, a virtual image of an image displayed on a display panel. A processor causes the display panel to display a parallax image. An optical element causes a first image displayed on the display panel to reach the user's first eye and a second image on the display panel to reach the user's second eye. The processor causes the display panel to display an image element in the parallax image as at least partially superimposed on the object. The processor performs first control to fix, in response to the distance to the object greater than or equal to a predetermined first distance, parallax of the image element to a value other than 0 corresponding to the first distance.

  • Publication number: 20220400248
Abstract: A three-dimensional display device includes a display panel, an optical panel, and a controller. The display panel displays a parallax image. The optical panel defines a traveling direction of image light. The controller controls the parallax image based on positions of a first eye and a second eye of a user. The controller causes a predetermined proportion of pixels to display a black image. The predetermined proportion is determined to cause, for the first and second eyes of the user at a predetermined reference position, a black image to be displayed by a pixel at one end or two ends of multiple first areas viewable to the first eye and not viewable to the second eye and by a pixel at one end or two ends of multiple second areas viewable to the second eye and not viewable to the first eye in a parallax direction.

  • Publication number: 20220345686
Abstract: A three-dimensional display device includes a display panel that displays a parallax image, an optical panel including a plurality of less-transmissive portions and a plurality of transmissive portions repeatedly arranged alternately in a parallax direction, and a controller that controls the display panel. Each of the plurality of transmissive portions has a first width in the parallax direction greater than a second width of each of the plurality of less-transmissive portions in the parallax direction. The controller causes the display panel to display a black image in a binocular viewable area on the display panel viewable to two eyes of a user to allow parallax separation of the parallax image.
