Each pixel electrode has a slit formed for separating each pixel into a plurality of sub-pixels by partially eliminating the pixel electrode with a connecting portion left at which adjoining electrode portions of each pixel electrode is connected with each other. The width W1 of the pixel electrode that runs in a direction in which the slit is formed and width W2 of the connecting portion have a ratio W2/W1 of 0.13 or lower.

The screen-printing is performed while a squeegee is moved in a direction parallel to the rubbing direction of the alignment film formed on the first substrate.

Molecules of the liquid crystal of each sub-pixel region are aligned toward center of the sub-pixel region from the circumference of the sub-pixel region by a horizontal electric filed applied between the pixel electrode and auxiliary electrode, and the shape of the end portion of the transparent step film.
