  • Patent number: 4930438
Abstract: A developing device employing a non-magnetic one-component toner is provided and it includes a developing sleeve, which is driven to rotate in a predetermined direction past a developing region where toner carried on the sleeve is supplied to develop an electrostatic latent image formed on an image bearing member, a tank for storing therein a quantity of non-magnetic one-component toner and a flexible supply roller generally disposed between the tank and the developing sleeve for supplying the toner from the tank to the developing sleeve. The flexible supply roller rotates so as to be in sliding contact with the developing sleeve. With the provision of such a supply roller, even non-magnetic one-component toner can be suitably supplied to the developing sleeve to form thereon a thin film of charged toner for use in developing an electrostatic latent image.

  • Patent number: 4760422
Abstract: A device for developing an electrostatic latent image includes a developing sleeve and a sponge roller which is in scrubbing contact with the sleeve. Thus, even if non-magnetic, single component toner is used, it is electrically charged due to the scrubbing action and thus electrically attracted to the developing sleeve. A doctor blade is pressed against the developing sleeve and thus the toner is formed into a thin film having sufficient charge and a predetermined thickness. As the developing sleeve further rotates, thus formed thin film is brought to a developing region where the latent image is developed by the thin film of toner. Preferably, the blade is arranged in a particular orientation with respect to the sleeve. The blade may be movably provided so as to be pressed against the sleeve by an appropriate biasing element. The sleeve and the sponge roller may be driven to rotate same or opposite in direction, as desired. The sleeve may be formed to be elastically deformable.

  • Patent number: 4472724
Abstract: An electrostatic recording apparatus comprising an ion modulator, a driving circuit for transforming a first image signal into a second image signal and for applying said second image signal to the ion modulator, a member for forming electrostatic latent image, and a photon coupled isolator. A voltage of the second image signal is higher than a voltage of the first image signal. The first image signal is supplied to the driving circuit through the photon coupled isolator. The ion modulator is a multilayered ion modulator comprising a layer of insulating material, a continuous layer of conductive material and a segmented layer of conductive material on the other side of said insulating layer. Each segment of the segmented conductive layer is insulatively isolated from each other segment. The multilayered ion modulator has at least one of row of apertures formed therethrough. A segment of the segmented conduction layer is formed around each aperture.

  • Patent number: 4467333
Abstract: A copying machine comprising an image signal generating unit including a solid image pickup element for converting an optical image into an electric signal; an ion generating source; and an electrostatic image forming unit including an ion control electrode. The ion control electrode has a control electrode and a common electrode arranged to face each other through an insulating layer and formed with fine openings arranged in a row or in plural adjacent rows. At least one of the electrodes being divided into such a plurality of blocks as has its one or plural openings electrically insulated at a close spacing across the aforementioned arranged openings and as are wired to receive electric signals from the aforementioned image signal generating unit, the common electrode being operative to control the flow of ions, which are directed toward a charge holder, if necessary, together with the control electrode in response to a bias voltage applied.

  • Patent number: 4436402
Abstract: In a copying machine in which the distance of projection scanning is varied by relative movement between the copy board and the optical system in accordance with the size of the original, indices are provided on the copy board for positioning the original so that the shorter side of the original always corresponds to the direction of scanning. This unification of original placement results not only in a shortening in the distance of the projection scanning but an increase in copying speed.
