Patent number: 8578932Abstract: A Breath Actuated Inhaler having a canister with a medication dispensed when compressing the canister. Compression of the canister is prevented by a mechanism only allowing compression when an air flow is sufficient to ensure dispensing of the medication in the lungs/throat of the person. No latch or blocking mechanism is provided so that any force exerted by the person is, at all times, directed to the canister or preventing mechanism so that when no force is exerted by the user, no force is exerted in the inhaler. Prolonged exertion of such force could otherwise cause dimension changes and subsequent uncertainty of the dose size.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2009Date of Patent: November 12, 2013Assignee: Bang & Olufsen Medicom A/SInventors: Bjørn Knud Andersen, Søren Christrup, Jørgen Rasmussen

Publication number: 20100175692Abstract: A dose metering inhaler for administration via a liquid phase uses a rotating metering element that transports the metered dose from the pressurized canister to the mouthpiece. The metering is improved in that there is an efficient protection against penetration of outside air, and in that the counting of the doses is improved by preventing backwards rotation of the rotating metering element.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 8, 2006Publication date: July 15, 2010Applicant: BANG & OLUFSEN MEDICOM A/SInventors: Joergen Rasmussen, Soeren Christrup

Patent number: 7575003Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for dispensing a medicament from a pressurised canister comprising a mouthpiece, a seat for engagement with the top of the canister and a housing provided with means for guiding and/or holding the canister.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 2003Date of Patent: August 18, 2009Assignee: Bang & Olufsen Medicom A/SInventors: Jørgen Rasmussen, Søren Christrup

Patent number: 7383838Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to provide a mechanical blocking device by means of which the user will only be able to initiate an event by activating a stroke of the button or lever past the activation point of the event. Should the movement of the button or lever be stopped or the direction changed before reaching the activation point, retaining means will hinder further movement in the first direction before the lever or button has been brought back to its starting position.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 2004Date of Patent: June 10, 2008Assignee: Bang & Olufsen Medicom A/SInventors: Jørgen Rasmussen, Søren Christrup

Patent number: 6860262Abstract: An inhaler for delivering medicament by inhalation, comprising a housing for holding a canister of medicament having a body and a valve stem compressible together to actuate the canister to deliver a dose of medicament from the valve stem, an actuation mechanism for compressing the canister, a cannister re-set mechanism comprising a locking element for locking the canister in a compressed state and a release member resiliently biassed by the actuation mechanism on compression of the canister to release the locking mechanism to allow reset of the canister. By provision of the locking element for locking the canister in a compressed state, it is possible to ensure re-set does not occur immediately. The release member subsequently releases the locking mechanism to allow re-set of the canister after a proper dose has been delivered.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 2003Date of Patent: March 1, 2005Assignee: AstraZeneca ABInventors: Søren Christrup, Anders Geert-Jensen, Mikael Jørgensen, Jørgen Rasmussen, Hugo Dines Schmidt

Patent number: 6745761Abstract: A breath actuated inhaler for delivering medicament by inhalation, comprising a housing having a mouthpiece and defining an air flow path extending from the mouthpiece through the housing; the housing holding a replaceable canister of medicament actuatable to deliver a dose of medicament into the air flow path, wherein the housing defines an opening in the air flow path and the opening is closed by a closure element connected to and replaceable with the canister. The closure element acts as a safety feature because it is only closed when the inhaler is used with a canister to which a closure element is connected the closure element carries an indication of the type of medicament in the canister to allow the user to recognise the type of medicament. A plurality of inhalers may be provided in which each given inhaler has an opening with a different shape and has a closure element with a shape which conforms with the opening of the given inhaler but which does not conform with the openings of the other inhalers.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 2003Date of Patent: June 8, 2004Assignee: AstraZeneca ABInventors: Søren Christrup, Anders Geert-Jensen, Mikael Jørgensen, Jørgen Rasmussen, Hugo Dines Schmidt

Patent number: 6415784Abstract: The actuation mechanism of a breath-actuated inhaler for delivery of a medicament by inhalation. The actuation mechanism includes a pre-loading mechanism is arranged to load the resilient loading element by manual depression of two contact members movable relative to the housing and disposed opposite one another on either side of the axis of a canister held in the housing. The actuation mechanism also includes a pivotably mounted trigger vane arranged to be moved by inhalation at the mouthpiece to cause operation of the actuation mechanism, wherein the trigger vane is mounted to pivot about an axis passing through the center of mass of the trigger.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 1999Date of Patent: July 9, 2002Assignee: AstraZeneca ABInventors: Søren Christrup, Anders Geert-Jensen, Mikael Jørgensen, Jørgen Rasmussen, Hugo Dines Schmidt
