Abstract: The present invention relates generally to a lockable latch apparatus and a method of using same. More particularly, the invention encompasses a lockable latch that can be locked into place using a key to prevent it from sliding or being opened. The invention also provides a method of using the inventive lockable latch where the lockable latch has color coding or indicia to indicate its position within the latch assembly. The housing could also have an opening to receive and securely hold the latch handle inside the housing when in the locked position, and wherein from that locked position the latch handle can only be released or ejected using a key.
