  • Patent number: 10827513
Abstract: Methods for assigning effective isotopic radiated power to an access point in a wireless network are provided. In one aspect, a method includes determining weights for neighboring access points in a wireless network based on channel frequency and basic service set color assignments. For a particular access point, a first path loss based on the determined weights and a second path loss based on the neighboring access points are calculated. First and second effective isotopic radiated power values are calculated based on the respective first and second path losses. The effective isotopic radiated power of the particular access point is adjusted based on the lower of the first and second calculated effective isotopic radiated power values. Systems and machine-readable media are also provided.

  • Patent number: 10827433
Abstract: Examples provided herein describe a method for managing power consumption of a network. For example, a network device may monitor a set of network area zones of a network coverage area, where each network area zone is associated with a set of edge devices. A first occupancy state may be determined for a first network area zone of the set of network area zones based on usage of a first set of edge devices of the first network area zone. Based on the determined first occupancy state, a first power consumption policy for the first network area zone may be determined. Responsive to determining the first power consumption policy, the determined first power consumption policy may be applied to the first set of edge devices in the first network area zone at least edge changing a power consumption mode of a first edge device in the first set of edge devices.

  • Patent number: 10771954
Abstract: An example of controlling a network of wireless access points (APs) to detect that a client device associated with the network is stationary in an AP-overlap area, and in response to the detection that the client device is stationary in the AP-overlap area, assigning one of the APs to be a preferred AP for the client device. The APs are to avoid connecting with any client devices that have been assigned another AP as a preferred AP. Thus, the stationary client device in the overlap area may be prevented from undesired roaming.

  • Publication number: 20200252265
Abstract: An access point providing a client device with access to a communication network detects an anomaly in packet traffic being transmitted to or received from the client device. In response, the access point performs a packet capture by triggering the release of stored packets. The access point determines an anomaly type representing a root cause of the anomaly and annotates the packet capture with the anomaly type. The access point also detects radio frequency interference exceeding a prescribed threshold and, in response, performs a spectrum capture. The packet capture, annotated with the anomaly type, and the spectrum capture are reported either automatically or in response to a request.

  • Patent number: 10716022
Abstract: Systems and methods for calculating uplink pathloss in a wireless local area network are provided. Uplink pathloss between an access point and client device operating in the wireless local area network can be calculated based on determining an effective maximum transmit power. Based on the effective maximum transmit power, and known uplink power headroom, a current transmit power of the client device can be determined. Based on the current transmit power of the client device, uplink pathloss can be determined. If the operating conditions and/or characteristics of the client device and/or wireless local area network change, the uplink pathloss may be re-evaluated.

  • Patent number: 10694451
Abstract: Methods and systems are described for determining an optimal access point for a client device based on the relative difference between signal strengths of wireless signals received by the client device from access points. In particular, the signal strengths of wireless signals received by a client device from access points are determined without receipt of signal strength and/or transmit power information from the client device. Instead, the signal strength difference value may be determined based on known characteristics of signals transmitted by the access points and known characteristics of signals received by the access points from the client device. This relative difference value may thereafter be used to determine an appropriate access point to provide network access to the client device.
