  • Patent number: 6191923
Abstract: A magnetic head slider assembly for a magnetic disk type recording/reproducing apparatus includes a slider body, a sliding pad provided on the slider body and projecting beyond a disk facing surface thereof, a thin film layer disposed at one end of the slider body, a magnetic head constituted by the thin film layer as an integral part thereof, and a core pad projection incorporating therein a core of the magnetic head and projecting beyond an adjacent disk facing surface of the slider body. The sliding pad is provided at a region of the slider body ahead of the core pad projection and prevents generation of a floating force by making use of a relative movement between the slider body and the magnetic disk.

Abstract: Three pads are disposed on the surface of a magnetic head facing to a storage medium and are brought into contact with the surface of the storage medium through a lubricant layer. The total of areas of the three pads is equal to or larger than 0.0001 mm.sup.2 and equal to or smaller than 0.02 mm.sup.2 and the height of the pads is equal to or higher than 5 .mu.m and equal to or lower than 100 .mu.m. Two pads of the three pads include tapers formed in the front thereof and are disposed in a forward position in a relative movement direction to the storage medium and one remaining pad is disposed in a backward position. The total of areas of the two pads in the forward position is set to be narrower than an area of the pad in the backward position. • Patent number: 4883711
Abstract: A magnetic recording medium in which a non-magnetic intermediate layer made of an alloy substantially composed of at least one element selected from the group consisting of Zr, Hf, Ta, Ti and Nb is disposed between a magnetic layer formed on a substrate and a non-magnetic overcoat layer formed on the magnetic layer. Since the impact shock resistance and the vibration resistance of the magnetic recording medium can be improved and the head-medium spacing of the magnetic disc apparatus can be decreased extremely by disposing the non-magnetic intermediate layer, it can provide a increase in the recording density, particularly, in a thin film type magnetic recording medium using a metallic magnetic thin film or metal oxide thin film as the magnetic layer. It can also improve the corrosion resistance in the case of a metallic magnetic thin film type medium.

  • Patent number: 4841402
Abstract: A thin film magnetic head having two conductor layers provided within a magnetic circuit constituted by a first and a second magnetic member. The magnetic circuit has, at the side to which a recording medium is opposed, a portion where the first and second magnetic members are opposed to each other over a length substantially equal to a gap depth, intervening a non-magnetic gap member therebetween, and a portion ahead thereof where they are connected with each other. The edge of the gap member constitutes an aperture of the magnetic circuit. The thin film magnetic head arranged as above permits a high density recording without reducing its production yield.

  • Patent number: 4796126
Abstract: A thin film magnetic head comprises a flying slider and a thin film transducer. The flying slider is formed as a polygonal body having a first face constituting a flying face and a second face normal to the first face, on which second face the thin film magnetic transducer is formed. The flying slider is made of a material containing Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 -TiC as the main constituent thereof and on the flying face of the slider is formed Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 -TiO.sub.2. The flying face exhibits an improved sliding property, while enabling use of the excellent features of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 -TiC in forming the thin film element as well as in machining the flying slider. The slider can be produced by subjecting the flying face of the slider made of a material containing Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 -TiC to a gas phase reaction with an oxygen containing gas. Alternatively, a portion of the flying face can be removed and a layer of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 -TiO.sub.2 deposited upon the surface of the flying face.
