  • Patent number: 4852377
Abstract: A tool pack includes a cradle (30) that defines a space (36) into which ironing die assemblies (80, 100, 106) and a plurality of lubricating rings (78, 102, 104) each associated with an ironing ring are mounted. A lubricant manifold (152) is configured so that the lubricating rings can be manipulated into position to provide communication between the rings and the manifold. The cradle has a pair of spaced locator bars (52) exposed in the space and a cover (40) is pivotally mounted on the cradle to close an access opening and is locked by a clamp mechanism (44). The cover has deflectable metal members (62) that engage the ironing assemblies and lubricating rings and apply pressure to force the assemblies into engagement with the locator bars and also provide sealing engagement between the manifold and the lubricating rings.

  • Patent number: 4768672
Abstract: A drawn and ironed container having a reduced neck around an upper open end has a bottom profile which exhibits excellent strength characteristics and nests with an end double-seamed to the open end of the container. The bottom profile includes a center spherical dome surrounded by a U-shaped annular portion defining a lower support surface for the container. A joining segment is integral with the container side wall and the U-shaped annular portion includes a first annular arcuate portion having an exterior radius and a second annular arcuate portion having an interior radius.

  • Patent number: 4439081
Abstract: A steel sheet container wherein the bottom wall is integral with the body and wherein the container is formed by a drawing operation with there being three drawings of the metal in sequence. Most particularly, the steel sheet has on the opposite surfaces thereof a coating of tin with the surfaces of the steel sheet being very smooth so as to permit the formation of the tin with a matte finish. The finish of the steel sheet should range generally from on the order of 10 microinch minimum to 30 microinch maximum.

  • Patent number: 4293353
Abstract: An aerosol type container wherein a separate product bag of plastics material is provided. The bag is of a larger size than the opening in which the valve cup is seated and thus must be gathered or pleated to pass through that reduced diameter opening. The initially gathered or pleated bag material is compressively engaged between the top curl defining the opening and the valve cup and is heated to a molding and bonding temperature so that a molded ring conforming to the adjacent portions of the top curl and the valve seat is formed, this part eliminating the usual need for a compound or other sealant between the valve cup and the top curl.

  • Patent number: 4055134
Abstract: An easy opening end closure is formed with annular, double folded band adjacent the chuck wall. A weakening line defining a removable panel portion is formed in the center segment of the fold so that the folded edges of the single band provide smooth protective surfaces on both the ledge and the removable panel portion. This disclosure also relates to a method for forming the above described easy-opening end closure wherein the weakening line is formed in the end panel prior to complete formation of the folded band.

  • Patent number: 4003496
Abstract: An easy-opening end closure of the full opening type is formed with the flap-defining score-line located in the vertical chuck wall whereat the cutedge, of that portion of the closure remaining attached to the container after opening, is shielded by the container sidewall. The disclosure also relates to a method for forming the above described easy-opening end closure wherein the scoreline is formed in a horizontal portion of the end panel, said portion thereafter being upset to a substantially vertical position whereat it comprises a part of the chuck wall.
