  • Patent number: 5036313
Abstract: An improved assembly design for a portable computer. A housing has a base member with a plurality of edge guides located along the side portions and a plurality of connector sockets arranged along the inner front portion. A matching circuit board has a plurality of forwardly extending plug margins which mate with the sockets when the board is fully installed in the edge guides. The board carries the main computer system electronic components and a rigid disk memory module. The keyboard assembly, floppy disk memory and power supply are all mounted to the under surface of the housing cover member, and the display panel is mounted to the top of the cover. The design enables quick assembly of the computer, and quick removal of the circuit board for repair.

  • Patent number: 4948846
Abstract: The polymer buildup problem that may occur in the reactor where the inversion polymerization of vinylchloride is conducted can be effectively ameliorated by way of coating the internal surfaces of the reactor with a mixture comprising an expanding lattice clay, e.g., veegum, and a water-soluble suspending agent, e.g., polyacrylic acid.

  • Patent number: 4739023
Abstract: There is disclosed a suspension polymerization of vinyl chloride in which the suspension of monomers as droplets is maintained, and the droplets of polymer are prevented from coalescence by the addition of an expanding lattice clay, preferably a magnesium alumina silicate clay, most preferably, Veegum, and a hydrophilic polymer. The hydrophilic polymer can be a partially hydrolized polyvinyl alcohol, a hydroxyalkyl cellulose ether, or a cross-linked polyacrylic acid, the latter being preferred. These addities enhance polymerization by reducing polymerization time and reducing deposition of the polymer in the reactor. Additionally, the shape and particle size distribution of the polymer is improved.

  • Patent number: 4710045
Abstract: An adjustable carriage assembly for a printing device having a print mechanism to be translated along a linear print path. The carriage assembly includes an upper carriage sub-assembly and a lower carriage sub-assembly, the lower carriage sub-assembly having a pair of laterally spaced arm members joined together by a pair of cross members. Each arm member has an open pivot slot and a support ramp portion. A spring coupled between the upper and lower carriage sub-assemblies in the region adjacent the pivot portions provides a spring detent for the upper carriage sub-assembly with respect to the lower carriage sub-assembly in both the first operative position and a second inoperative position. The guide members are adjustable eccentric washers.A cartridge latch is configured to be removably mounted in an aperture formed in a platform on the upper carriage sub-assembly.

  • Patent number: 4591284
Abstract: A daisy wheel printer having a platen, a translatable carriage, a pair of parallel support rods for the carriage, a pressure roller control mechanism, and electrochemical dirve mechanisms for the carriage and the platen has a unitary cast base member incorporating all of the support members required for these elements. The unitary base member also integrally incorporates a support platform for the electrical power components, a separate integral chamber for the electronic control components, and a thermally conductive heat sink for conducting away heat generated by the electrical components. The unitary base member also provides electromagnetic radiation shielding and static discharge protection without the need for additional shielding or ground components. The carriage assembly for the printing element includes a one piece die cast lower support brace, and an upper carriage assembly incorporating the detachable ribbon cartridge drive mechanism and a simple one piece ribbon latching device.
