  • Patent number: 11452098
Abstract: An access point (AP) may signal management frames that include two operation information fields indicating two channel widths for different classes of wireless stations (STAs). STAs may identify one of the two operation information fields based on capabilities of the STA (e.g., whether or not the STA is capable of dual band channel bonding, resource unit or physical channel puncturing, etc.). In some cases, one operation information field may indicate a channel width within a first and second frequency band (e.g., within the 5 GHz band and the 6 GHz band), as well as a puncturing scheme associated with the channel width. In some cases, the operation information field may indicate a dual band channel bonding configuration, where two frequency segments associated with the channel bonding configuration are in two different frequency bands. In some cases, a tightened spectral mask may be used for such dual band channel bonding configurations.

  • Patent number: 11362708
Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for wireless communication, and particularly, methods, devices and systems for implementing a joint transmission feature in a wireless communication system. Using the joint transmission feature, multiple access points (APs) may use an aggregated collection of antennas of multiple APs to simultaneously transmit a joint beamformed transmission to one or more stations (STAs). The techniques in this disclosure may prevent or reduce variations in relative gain adjustments by the APs that could otherwise negatively impact the joint transmission. In some implementations, a network device may determine a normalized gain adjustment value based on power parameters associated with each of the multiple APs. In some other implementations, each AP may determine the normalized gain adjustment value based on power parameters shared between the APs.

  • Publication number: 20220140942
Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for interpreting reserved bits and values associated with different releases of a wireless communication protocol. In some implementations, a wireless communication device may determine whether to terminate or continue reception of a physical layer protocol convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) if it detects a reserved bit in the physical layer preamble set to an unsupported value (such as a value different than what is defined by a version or release of the wireless communication protocol supported by the wireless communication device). In some other implementations, a wireless communication device may determine whether to terminate or continue reception of a PPDU if it detects a field in the physical layer preamble set to a reserved value (such as defined by a version or release of the wireless communication protocol supported by the wireless communication device).

  • Patent number: 11271617
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, devices, apparatus and methods, including computer programs encoded on storage media, for null data packet (NDP) based implicit sounding and calibration for a wireless local area network (WLAN). An AP may perform a calibration procedure with one or more stations (STAs) that involves NDP transmissions. The AP may calibrate an effective downlink channel response to an effective uplink channel to compensate for transmit and receive chain differences. The AP may initiate implicit sounding by transmitting a downlink message that includes an uplink NDP announcement frame to the one or more STAs, prompting uplink multi-user (MU) NDP transmission. The AP may estimate the uplink channel based on measuring the received NDPs and mirror the estimated uplink channel for reciprocal downlink channel estimation and precoding generation. The AP may perform MU multiple input multiple output (MIMO) downlink transmission that is precoded based on the channel estimation.

  • Patent number: 11171814
Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for providing channel feedback for multiple spatial streams. In some implementations, the techniques involve generating distinct channel estimates for different respective sets of orthogonal spatial streams. In some implementations, the orthogonality of the different sets of orthogonal spatial streams enables the beamformee to distinguish the spatial streams to provide the separate channel estimates. The beamformee may then determine separate correlations for the different respective sets of spatial streams. In some implementations, the beamformee combines the correlations to determine an average correlation for each of a number of sets of frequency tones. The beamformee may then perform an eigenvalue decomposition on a tone-by-tone basis based on the respective average correlation and the channel estimate obtained for the tone.
