  • Patent number: 9756553
Abstract: A method and system provide assisted acquisition of a wireless link between user equipment and a femtocell unit. After an initial calibration of timing and/or frequency information, the user equipment enters into a low-power state. The femtocell unit monitors for system updates using a network listen module that sniffs the air interface of one or more neighboring cells. Upon a trigger event, the femtocell unit provides aiding information, for example, timing and/or frequency information corresponding to a change in timing and/or frequency of the air interface, over a second radio, e.g., a wireless personal area network interface. Thus, the user equipment may remain in the low-power state and receive updates with respect to the wireless wide area network interface. Subsequently, upon wake-up, the user equipment may utilize the aiding information, for example, to recalibrate its timing and/or frequency. Thus, acquisition of the wireless link with the femtocell unit may be expedited.

  • Patent number: 9402277
Abstract: A novel power conservation scheme is provided for conserving power in client terminals by using a proxy server. The client terminal, having a low-power communication interface and a high-power communication interface, may power down its high-power communication interface, to conserve power. Prior to shutting off its high-power communication interface, the client terminal may assign a host terminal to act as a proxy for the client terminal. The host terminal monitors the paging channels for the client terminal via a high-power communication interface. If the host terminal detects a paging message for the client terminal, it forwards at least a portion of the paging message to the client terminal via a low-power communication interface. Upon receipt of the paging message from the host terminal via its low-power communication interface, the client terminal may power up its high-power communication interface and directly respond to an access terminal that initiated the paging message.

  • Patent number: 9313067
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for transceiving information via alternate bandwidths using a shared baseband processor. The transmission method selects clock sampling frequencies, for example a first clock frequency (l×F1), or a second clock frequency (k×F1), where k>l. Digital information is processed using the selected clock sampling frequency and a baseband signal is generated. Regardless of the clock sampling frequency selected, the baseband signal may have the same number of subcarrier frequencies. The baseband signal is converted into a radio frequency (RF) signal having a data rate responsive to a selected clock frequency, and transmitted. More explicitly, a first baseband signal is generated having a first data rate in response to selecting the first clock frequency. A second baseband signal having a second data rate greater than the first data rate, may be generated in response to selecting the second clock frequency.

  • Patent number: 9125134
Abstract: Out of band (OOB) communication facilitates femtocell operation. One or more proximity agent provides out of band communication with nodes (e.g., mobile client devices) to provide assistance in or otherwise facilitate femtocell discovery, reselection, and/or interference mitigation. Out of band communication techniques provide for low power discovery, association, and communication as compared to corresponding femtocell or cellular network communication techniques. An OOB proximity agent is provided in association with a femtocell to provide transmit power level control with respect to the femtocell. In operation, if a client device searches for and finds an OOB proximity agent, it will find a femtocell, thereby avoiding a need to aggressively search for femtocells.

  • Patent number: 8964611
Abstract: A novel power conservation scheme is provided for conserving power in a wireless client terminal with an established communication session. While in a connected mode, the client terminal may receive data for the communication session via a data channel from an access point. During periods of inactivity over the data channel, the client terminal may switch to a lowered power mode, where the client terminal discontinuously monitors a control channel and does not monitor the data channel. The access point is informed of the operating mode of the client terminal. If a data resume indicator is received over the control channel, the client terminal switches back to the connected mode and resumes the communication session by receiving additional data over the data channel.
