  • Patent number: 6012717
Abstract: A card holder has two rigid panels that are flexibly connected to each other along edges thereof by a flexible hinge. Pockets are located on one side of each panel, for example, such that an opening of at least one pocket on each panel is directed toward the common edge. Preferably, the pockets on one panel face the pockets on the other panel when the card holder is in a closed position and face away from the pockets on the other panel when the card holder is in an open position. Preferably, the first and second rigid panels are attached to each other by only the flexible hinge, and include no additional supporting structure to maintain the card holder in the open position. Thus, the card holder is incapable of maintaining itself in the open position.

  • Patent number: 5137280
Abstract: An entertainment/educational game is provided which teaches players thereof about geography. The game includes a playing surface having a geographical area divided into subregions illustrated thereon, the geographical area and subregions having geographically significant shapes. A plurality of elongated, flexible members (e.g., colored strings) having fixed, equal lengths are provided as playing pieces, one for each player (or team). An object of the game is to accumulate points while attaching ones playing piece to the playing surface within subregions to achieve some predefined goal (e.g., extending one's playing piece across the geographical area or forming a loop with one's playing piece), while attaching one's playing piece to at least a minimum number of subregions. Players draw cards which include indicia corresponding to one of the subregions. Players attach a portion of their playing piece to the playing surface within a subregion if they can locate the subregion within a preset time period.

  • Patent number: 5012226
Abstract: The present invention utilizes operator interaction for maintaining an operator alert. A switching means is provided which must be actuated by the operator within an adjustable time period to prevent a first alarm from being activated. Upon detection of this first alarm, the driver must actuate the switching means, indicating his alertness and restarting the first time period, otherwise after expiration of a second time period a second alarm will be activated to further alert the operator and passengers. This second alarm will remain activated until the switching means is actuated restarting the process. The present invention also includes a waiting mode whereby the timer can be deactivated while driving in congested traffic. During the waiting mode, a third alarm is activated to provide some alerting function. The present invention can be portable and thus easily used and installed in different vehicles. A variety of mounting means can be used to mount the device in the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4646716
Abstract: An andiron mounting system for directly and swivelably connecting an andiron to a fireplace grate is provided. An elongate connecting member attaches the andiron to the fireplace grate. An adjustable mounting bracket connects the elongate connecting member to the andiron so that the andiron can be attached to fireplace grates of different heights. An attachment means secures the other end of the elongate connecting member to the fireplace grate. The attachment means includes two movable sides so the andiron can be mounted on different types of fireplace grates. The attachment means is swivelably connected to the elongate connecting member so that the andirons can be freely and easily moved.

  • Patent number: 4637151
Abstract: A combination portable stadium cushion and pennant includes a seat cushion made of a block of foam material or the like, enclosed within an outer cushion cover, an inverted U-shaped member attached to a top part of the seat cushion and having a plurality of pockets formed in side walls thereof. The U-shaped member is made of a transparent plastic material and has openings into the pockets at the top edges thereof. The cushion may be used as a pennant by inserting bumper-stickers or the like displaying information about a team into the pockets. In another embodiment, the cushioned seat has a rectangularly shaped extendible member slidable in and out of a cavity in the cushion. The inverted U-shaped member then is placed on the extendible member.

  • Patent number: 4450827
Abstract: An andiron mounting system whereby an andiron is directly and swivelably connected to a fireplace grate. A connecting member is attached to the andiron at one end and has an aperture with a bushing at the other end. The bushing extends beyond the vertical extents of the aperture in the connecting member. A bolt extends through apertured mounting plates which contact the fireplace grate and also extends through the bushing. The connecting member may be bent twice to provide height adjustability.

  • Patent number: 4399806
Abstract: A fireplace draft control useable in fireplaces having air inlets in either the floor or rear of the fireplace. The device comprises a base having punchout section which may cooperate with an air opening in the fireplace floor. A slidable plate is used for covering this opening. A hood, having openings to direct air to the fireplace grate, is attached to the base. A hinged plate is provided at the bottom rear portion of the hood to cooperate with an outside air source entering through the rear of the fireplace. A control rod is connectable to either the slidable plate or the hinged plate. A second punchout may be provided in the base to cooperate with a separate ash dump opening.

  • Patent number: 4375803
Abstract: A fireplace screen and insert for increasing the efficiency of conventional fireplaces, useable with a wide variety of fireplace sizes. A frame is defined by two members having horizontally and vertically extending sections, the horizontally extending sections of which are joined by a telescoping sleeve, with vertical legs telescopically extending from the vertical sections of each member. A plurality of door sections of variable heights are provided and are hingedly connected to the frame at a variety of horizontal locations. It is preferred that the frame be provided with air inlet and outlet openings such that a heat exchange system is used. The heat exchange system is advantageously a metal sheet to which is attached a channel of substantially C-shaped cross-section.
