  • Patent number: 8757508
Abstract: A fluid flow control device has an annular fixed body with at least one aperture in an annular surface thereof. When in use, fluid is arranged to flow through the at least one aperture. A thermally responsive annular valve element is mounted concentrically with respect to the fixed body. The configuration of the annular valve element is changeable with temperature so as to control the flow of fluid through the at least one aperture.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 8, 2010
Date of Patent: June 24, 2014
    Assignee: Rolls-Royce PLC
Inventors: Andras D Haasz, Alexander E H Fitzhugh, Christopher J Burden, Jonathan Wilson, Samuel M Sampson, Derek Clarke
  • Patent number: 8376680
Abstract: An assembly comprises first and second components provided with holes receiving a retaining element in the form of a pin, in order to retain the components together. The pin is made from a shape memory effect material, and is inserted into the holes in a straight configuration, following which a change in temperature causes a retaining portion of the pin to deform into a second configuration, in which withdrawal of the pin is prevented.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 22, 2010
Date of Patent: February 19, 2013
    Assignee: Rolls-Royce PLC
Inventors: Andras D Haasz, Christopher J Burden, Jonathan Wilson, Alexander E H Fitzhugh, Samuel M Sampson

  • Patent number: 7121096
Abstract: A combustor for a gas turbine engine comprising a combustion chamber wall having formed therein at least one hole for admitting air into the combustion chamber and at least one air intake chute aligned with said hole. The air intake chutes are attached to the combustor wall in regions which, during operation, will be regions of low stress concentration.
