  • Publication number: 20230120723
Abstract: Systems and methods provide access to location-restricted resources outside of recognized locations. An example, a method includes receiving a request for a controlled access resource from a client device and determining that the request is not associated with a recognized location but that state data exists for the client device identifier. In response to identifying the state data, the method includes generating a link for accessing the controlled access resource at a server, generating an encrypted token including a timestamp, a random number, and licensed resource information from the state data, including the encrypted token in the link, and providing the link to the client device. The client device uses the link to request the controlled access resource from the server, which determines that the request includes the token, determines that the token is not expired, and provides the controlled access resource to the client device.

  • Patent number: 8276257
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a write head having well-defined, precise write head pole tips. A coplanar write head pole tip processing method provides a thin-film magnetic write head pole tip layer and defines first and second pole tips from the pole tip layer. When the pole tips are provided on a write head, a write gap can be defined using ion milling, E-beam lithography, FAB or can be deposited. The write head pole tips can be used in conjunction with read heads by merging a read head with a write head or a read head can be bonded to a write head in a piggybacked fashion.

  • Publication number: 20070268624
Abstract: A magnetic read/write head having a heating element to induce a desired amount of thermal protrusion in the read and write elements to control the fly height of the read and write elements over a magnetic medium. The heating element is connected with circuitry that provides an electrical bias (voltage or current) that switches polarity in order to prevent electromigration, thereby greatly increasing the life of the heating element. The polarity of the heating element can be switched upon the occurrence of a predetermined event such as between read or write events or upon activating deactivating the disk drive device or could be performed at regular, predetermined time intervals. The dual polarity bias could also be provided by applying an AC bias to the heating element.

  • Publication number: 20060227449
Abstract: A method and apparatus for optimizing data record quality on a disk for a pair of read and write heads, in which the write head is bigger, by adaptively varying linear and track density of overlapping recorded tracks to achieve a target storage capacity. In the method, target storage capacity and radial writing direction are selected. Read and write widths of heads are determined. A linear density and offset distance pairing for optimizing record quality at target storage capacity is determined, wherein offset distance is less than write width but greater than read width. The write head writes a track at the linear density, is offset in the radial direction by the offset distance, and the offset distance is stored. The write head writes a new track at the linear density. Offsetting, storing offset, and writing a new track are repeated until desired data is written into a cluster.

  • Publication number: 20060152849
Abstract: Magnetic heads having write coil structures with reduced electrical resistances for reducing thermal protrusion are disclosed. In one illustrative example, a magnetic head includes a magnetic yoke; a write gap layer formed between upper and lower poles of the magnetic yoke; and a write coil having a plurality of coil layers. Each coil layer of the write coil extends continuously between the upper and the lower poles through a plane defined by the write gap layer. Preferably, the write coil is formed using a damascene process, such that each coil layer is wider than each coil separating layer. Such a structure provides for a relatively large amount of coil materials to be used, which reduces the coil's electrical resistance. This, in turn, reduces the heat generated by the write coils during operation.

  • Publication number: 20060098337
Abstract: A magnetic head having one or more tungsten heat sinks is disposed within the magnetic head to draw heat away from the components of the head to limit unwanted thermal expansion and protrusion of the components of the magnetic head into the air bearing gap. In a first embodiment, a tungsten heat sink is fabricated upon the magnetic head substrate, immediately prior to the fabrication of the first magnetic shield. In another embodiment, a tungsten heat sink is fabricated immediately following the fabrication of the second magnetic shield. In a further embodiment the tungsten heat sink is fabricated following the fabrication of the second magnetic pole of the write head portion of the magnetic head. An enhanced embodiment may contain two or all three of the heat sinks described above. In fabricating the heat sinks, photolithographic fabrication techniques, as are well known to those skilled in the art, are utilized.

  • Publication number: 20060002016
Abstract: A method and apparatus for processing sub-micron write head flare definition is provided. The method for processing a perpendicular magnetic head forms a portion of a perpendicular write head, where the portion of the write head includes a first pole layer, a coil layer, a second pole layer and a write pole, the method forms a portion of a magnetic read head adjacent to the portion of the perpendicular write head, where the portion of the read head includes a shield layer and a sensor, the method also laps the write pole concurrently with the sensor to define a flare position of the pole tip and to define a sensor height, where the flare position of the pole tip is defined in the same photo-lithography step as the back edge of the sensor.
