Abstract: A location query service for use with a wireless network that tracks the location of network devices, such as a network complying with enhanced 911 standards. The service provides requestors with the locations of network users, based on the locations of the users' wireless network devices. The service receives a location query from a requester, retrieves location information associated with the network user, and returns the location information to the requester. Alternately, before returning the location information to the requestor, the service authenticates that the requestor is authorized by the network user to receive the network user's location information. A requestor can submit a location query, for example, by voice calls through the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) to an interactive voice response unit (IVRU), personal computer access through a global computer network, and cellular telephone access through a global computer network.

Abstract: A method for reporting a user's emergency condition by sending an emergency help request message in a TCP/IP format to an emergency service center (ESC). The help request message may be sent over the Internet to advantageously harness the data transmission resources provided by the Internet. A support service provider may commercially provide such an emergency reporting service to a group of subscribers. The service provider may receive emergency requests from the subscribers and may send those requests over the Internet to the emergency service center. The service provider may also convert any non-TCP/IP message received from the subscriber into a TCP/IP message prior to sending the message to the ESC. A per-usage fee or a flat subscription fee may be charged by the service provider to allow users to report emergency conditions over the Internet. The support service provider thus coordinates the emergency help on behalf of the user.

Activity data associated with an activity of one or more subscribers of a presence service is received at a presence server. The activity data is provided, from the presence server, to one or more other subscribers of the presence service.

Abstract: A system and method is provided for using location information associated with wireless devices. The system includes a wireless device, a location system, and a feature server. The wireless device includes any wireless apparatus having wireless communications capabilities. The location system can generate location information pinpointing the location of the wireless device. The feature server can use the location information to determine whether to execute an action in accordance with subscriber rules. A large number of applications may be implemented to execute the action via a number of communications channels, including without limitation, a wireless communications network, a computer network, and a public switched telephone system, for example.

Abstract: Methods, devices, and computer program products describe remotely disabling an article of manufacture. One such device includes a processor communicating with a display device. The processor sends a first registration message to register with a first service provider. If the processor attempts a second registration with a second service provider, the processor produces a prompt on the display to fulfill a service agreement to the first service provider. The processor receives a response to the prompt. If the response fulfills the service agreement, then the processor permits registration with the second service provider. If, however, the response fails to fulfill the service agreement, then the processor disables a function of the article of manufacture.

Abstract: Provided are methods for executing an action in response to a request for a service using location information in conjunction with service-specific parameters. A user may request a provider of a specified service (e.g., taxi, plumber, pharmacist, etc.). In evaluating the request, providers may be evaluated based on the location information in addition to service-specific parameters. An action in response may include merely displaying selected service provider(s) in response to the request, or acting on behalf of the user by communicating with a selected service provider.

Abstract: Methods, devices, and computer program products describe a remote control for consumer electronics devices. The remote control has multiple transceivers simultaneously receiving multiple streams of content, and multiple displays simultaneously presenting the streams of content. The remote control includes means for switching between multiple sources for each stream of content displayed on each display. The multiple sources may include wireless content from a wireless source, cable content from a cable service provider, satellite content from a satellite service provider, broadband content from a broadband service provider, and local content from a local source. The remote control also has a communication mode when a voice over internet protocol telephone call is received. One of the transceivers terminates its stream of content and a processor mutes an audible portion of all other streams of content, and the transceiver begins receiving the communication.

Abstract: Portable electronic devices include a unitary package including first and second opposing faces. A first flat panel display is provided on the first face. A user input device also is provided on the unitary package. A processor is provided in the unitary package that is configured to control the first and second flat panel displays, in response to the user input device.

Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for authenticating use of a mark. In one embodiment, a system for facilitation, authentication, and authorization of the use of a mark comprises a mark owner server that receives registration information from a reseller server via a network that requests to use a mark. The mark owner server determines whether the reseller server is authenticated to use the mark. If the reseller server is authenticated to use the mark, the mark owner server sends a key to the reseller server. The mark owner server receives the key from the reseller server to access the mark via the network and determines whether the reseller server is authorized to use the mark based on the key. If the reseller server is authorized to use the mark, the mark owner server sends a first mark via the network to be displayed.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products are disclosed for providing a discount to a wireless device. One method obtains a location of the wireless device and retrieves the discount from memory. The discount is based on the location, and the discount increases as a distance from a reference location increases. The reference location may represent any location, such as a physical location of a merchant. As the distance between the wireless device and the merchant's physical location increases, the merchant provides a greater discount to entice the wireless customer to travel to the merchant.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products are disclosed for providing a discount to a device. One method obtains a location of the device and obtains a demographic indicator associated with the device. The discount is retrieved from memory, and the discount is based on the location and on the demographic indicator. The discount increases as a distance from a reference location increases. The reference location may represent any location, such as a physical location of a merchant. As the distance between the device and the merchant's physical location increases, the merchant provides a greater discount to entice the customer to travel to the merchant.

Abstract: A monetary account, such as a prepaid account or credit account, that is used as payment for purchases is divided into categories of purchased items. When a purchase is attempted, a request to apply the monetary account specifies the category of the item being purchased. Rules associated with each of the categories of the account are applied in response to the request to determine whether to approve or deny the purchase. Rules may vary from one category to the next. As one example, a rule may include a remaining monetary value of the category where a determination is made whether the cost of the item being purchased is no more than the remaining monetary value. As another example, a rule may include whether a time of the purchase matches an allowable time for the category of the item being purchased. Other examples include rules that allow for borrowing from one category for purchases from another, for specific allocations, and for event triggers to generate alarms.

Abstract: An anonymous location wireless network service for use in a wireless network that tracks the location and identity of network users, such as networks complying with enhanced 911 standards. The service provides content providers with the location of network users without revealing their identities. The service includes a wireless network having a proxy server, a network communication link to a plurality of web sites, and a wireless communication link to a plurality of handheld devices. The proxy server blocks identity by reading the location and identity information of network devices, generating dummy identifications, relating the dummy identifications to the identity information, storing the relationships in a memory storage, and forwarding the location information and dummy identifications to the global computer network.

Abstract: Electronic cards include a package having vertical and horizontal dimensions of a standard credit card, and including first and second opposing faces. A flat panel display extends over the first face. A dynamic magnetic encoder is provided on the second face. A user input device also is provided on the package. A processor is provided in the package that is configured to display a substantially full size image of a credit card on the flat panel display, and to control the dynamic magnetic encoder to provide magnetic stripe information for the credit card, in response to user selection of the credit card via the user input device. Accordingly, the look (image) of a credit card can be emulated, as well as the magnetic stripe information that would be provided by the credit card, in response to user selection of the credit card.

Abstract: Location-blocking and identity-blocking services that can be commercially offered by a service promoter, e.g., a cellular service provider or a web advertiser. In the identity-blocking service, the service promoter may disclose the current physical location of a mobile subscriber (i.e., a cellular phone operator) to a third party (e.g., a web advertiser) subscribing to the identity-blocking service. However, the service promoter may not send any identity information for the mobile subscriber to the third party. On the other hand, in the location-blocking service, the service promoter may disclose the mobile subscriber's identity information to the third party, but not the current physical location of the mobile subscriber. Blocking of the mobile subscriber's identity or location information may be desirable for privacy reasons, to comply with a government regulation, or to implement a telecommunication service option selected by the mobile subscriber.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides systems and methods for an infringer finder to search public information sources for possible patent infringers. Some embodiments provide for analyzing an issued patent, associated patent support data, such as Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) information, and other reference materials, along with user input to create a patent search profile. Using the patent search profile, a search is made of public information sources and a report is generated summarizing possible patent infringement targets.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products are disclosed for participating in an online ecosystem. This online ecosystem represents an interrelated community of merchants. When a merchant participates in this online community of merchants, each merchant shares sales information (such as a sales price and a sale quantity) with the online community. That is, each merchant is informed of each sale of every merchant participating in the community. Each merchant, then, knows the commercial activity of the entire ecosystem.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides systems and methods for automated patent office documentation. Some embodiments provide for analyzing electronic content such as an issued patent, application for patent, Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) office action, associated patent support data such as PTO information, and/or other reference materials, along with user input to identify references to external information, create an electronic association to the external information, and insert the electronic association into the electronic content.

Abstract: Systems for translating text messages in an instant messaging system comprise a translation engine for translating text messages into a preferred language of a recipient of the text messages. The systems are configured to send and receive the text messages and to determine whether the text messages that are received in a source language are in the preferred language of the recipients so that the text messages are displayed in the preferred language of the recipients of the text messages. Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure provide systems and methods for setting up an appointment. Briefly described, in architecture, one embodiment of the system, among others, can be implemented as follows. The system includes first logic configured to receive a request for establishing an appointment and second logic configured to establish an appointment between a party who sent the request and a subject described in the request, wherein the appointment is established after the appointment is unilaterally approved by the party who sent the request.
