  • Patent number: 8238411
Abstract: The invention relates to the acquisition of a code modulated signal, wherein a first set of correlation results for correlations between the code modulated signal and a first replica code with different code phases and a second set of correlation results for correlations between the code modulated signal and a second replica code with different code phases are available. In order to achieve a high sensitivity, results from both sets of correlation results are combined, wherein correlation results used in the combination are selected based on information on a relative difference between a correct code phase for both replica codes. Then, it is determined based on the combination whether at least one of the sets of correlation results comprises a correlation result representing the correct code phase for the first replica code or the second replica code, respectively.

  • Patent number: 7706431
Abstract: A system architecture for a receiver to process multiple signals on a common carrier frequency from a satellite. The receiver is arranged such that the receiver receives input data transmitted from the satellite. A pilot signal is tracked from the input data using a correlation channel, and a data signal is tracked from the input data using a data code generator operatively connected to the correlation channel. In one embodiment of the invention, the data signal generator creates replica code for the data signal. In another embodiment of the invention, the system can switch between the data signal generator and pilot signal generator based upon the signal-to-noise ratio of the incoming signal.

  • Patent number: 7702003
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for a multi-path detection analysis and selectivity of CDMA signals using spread spectrum receivers using a correlation technique. The invention is based on determining by the spread spectrum receiver whether a distortion of a received radio frequency signal, caused by a multi-path component of said received signal, meets a predetermined condition using a pre-selected correlation analysis of said received signal. This invention is generally applicable to global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers and it is particularly useful in GNSS receivers, such as GPS (global positioning system) and Galileo receivers. The important goal of this invention is to provide a simple method for identifying signals that are corrupted by multi-path effects, and can be excluded from position calculation in the GNSS receivers.

  • Patent number: 7486749
Abstract: The invention relates to determining a correct code phase of a received, code modulated carrier signal using a correlation portion, a frequency compensation portion, a coherent memory and a non-coherent memory. In order to compensate for a code Doppler effect and/or a carrier Doppler drift effect, a mapping portion maps correlation values either to the coherent memory or to the non-coherent memory. Alternatively, the mapping portion maps correlation values stored in the coherent memory or in the non-coherent memory to new positions. The mapping depends on a frequency compensation applied by the frequency compensation portion and elapsed integration time, and/or on a drift of a frequency offset in correlation values output by the correlation portion.

  • Patent number: 7421011
Abstract: A method for performing an acquisition to a code-modulated spread spectrum signal comprises receiving the transmitted signal, sampling the received signal to form samples, forming at least one reference code corresponding to a code used in the modulation and forming a non-coherent search matrix on the basis of said samples. The non-coherent search matrix comprises elements in at least a first and a second dimension. The first dimension of the non-coherent search matrix represents the same frequency deviation but different code phases of the received signal, and the second dimension of the non-coherent search matrix represents the same code phase but different frequency deviations of the received signal. Each element is addressable in the first dimension by a first index and in the second dimension by a second index.

  • Patent number: 7359429
Abstract: A method for supporting a determination of the correlation between at least one received code modulated signal and at least one available replica code is shown. In order to reduce the total memory size required for such correlations, the method comprises storing signal samples of the at least one received code modulated signal with a first rate in a memory. The stored signal samples are then read with a second rate from the memory for determining a correlation between the read signal samples and samples of the at least one available replica code, wherein the second rate is higher than said first rate. The disclosure relates equally to a corresponding electronic device, to a chip for such an electronic device, to a system comprising such an electronic device and to a corresponding software product.

  • Patent number: 7286592
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for a flexible multimode operation of spread spectrum receivers, e.g., global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers, using a shared circuitry hardware configuration of the receiver for processing of different types of code division multiple access (CDMA) signals. According to said method the receiver utilizes shared channel circuitry to receive signals of different CDMA types providing a flexible multimode operation. The present invention provides a way to select the received signal type for each channel by replacing the dedicated channels with multimode channels suitable to multiple types of receiver signals. The multimode receiver is more flexible to operate in varying reception conditions. By utilizing shared channel circuitry the hardware size is kept small.

  • Patent number: 6584437
Abstract: A method and apparatus for coding successive pitch periods of a speech signal. Based on a priori knowledge of statistical properties of successive speech periods, a shaped lattice structure is designed to cover the most probable points in the pitch space. The codebook index search starts with finding an open-loop estimate in the pitch space considering all dimensions and refining the open-loop estimate in a closed-loop search separately in each dimension based on the shaped lattice structure. The closed-loop search for the first subframe is for obtaining an absolute pitch period or a delta pitch while the closed-loop search for each of the other subframes is for obtaining a delta pitch for the respective subframe.
