  • Publication number: 20100242170
Abstract: A patient support apparatus, such as a mattress, has multiple air sources to inflate air bladders of the apparatus. In one embodiment, a first air source provides air to one or more main support bladders and a second air source provides air to one or more microclimate bladders when a control system of the patient support apparatus operates according to a first mode of operation. The first and second air sources provide air to a turn bladder when the control system operates according to a second mode of operation. In another embodiment, a first air source provides air to at least one main support bladder and to at least one microclimate bladders. A second air source is dedicated for inflating at least one turn bladder.

  • Patent number: 7208119
Abstract: A healthcare data management system for use with an instrument for determining the concentration of a medically significant component of a body fluid. The instrument includes a first port. The system includes a cradle for receiving the instrument. The cradle includes a second port for coupling to the first port to download data from the instrument to the cradle. The apparatus further includes a base having a third port. The cradle includes a fourth port for coupling to the third port to permit downloading to the base of data collected from the instrument by the cradle. The apparatus further includes an accessory box including a fifth port. Engagement of the cradle with the accessory box couples the fourth and fifth ports. Engagement of the accessory box with the base couples the third and fifth ports.

  • Patent number: 5148562
Abstract: A birthing bed has a base, an intermediate frame mounted on the base with a power-actuated linkage to raise and lower the intermediate frame with respect to the base. A main frame is pivotably mounted on the intermediate frame so that it can be shifted from a horizontal position to an inclined Trendelenburg position. The intermediate frame is adapted to be lowered to bring the patient support surface to a very low level. In that level, the bed can be shifted to a Trendelenburg position with limit switches causing the intermediate frame to rise in order to accommodate the shift of the main frame to the inclined Trendelenburg position.

  • Patent number: 5129116
Abstract: A hospital bed has a base and a patient support mounted on the base, the patient support including a head panel that pivots between a horizontal position and an upwardly-inclined position to raise the patient to a sitting attitude. The head panel is connected to a ball nut mounted on a screw driven by a motor to raise and lower the head panel. The ball nut has a ratcheting latch that enables the head panel to be lifted manually and prevents the head panel from being driven positively downwardly in such a way as to injure some thing or person in its path.
