Abstract: A method of providing a texture effect and a display apparatus applying the same are provided. The display apparatus includes: an image processor which generates a texture that is brightness values and adds the texture to an image; and a display unit which displays the texture-added image. Accordingly, a user can express a texture of a canvas, paper, a brick, etc. on a displayed image without using an extra image editing program.

Abstract: A display apparatus and a Non-Photorealistic Rendering process (NPR) are provided. The display apparatus includes: an image processor which processes an NPR with respect to an image so that brightness of a pixel having a brightness value less than a predetermined brightness value is reduced and a brightness of a pixel having a brightness value greater than the predetermined brightness value is increased. Accordingly, a cartoon effect can be maximized.

Abstract: A Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) and a driving method thereof are provided. The LCD includes: a display panel part including a pixel, the pixel including a plurality of sub-pixels; a panel driver which drives the sub-pixels; a backlight part which emits a light of different colors to the display panel part; a backlight driver which provides the light of the colors corresponding to fields of a frame in sequence by sequentially driving the backlight part according to the fields; and a controller which controls the panel driver to represent a color of the pixel of the frame by selectively using one or more of the sub-pixels of the pixel. Hence, the liquid crystal stress can be drastically improved without a loss of brightness.

Abstract: A method for displaying a video which is dithered using related masks and a video display apparatus applying the same, the video display apparatus dithering a video signal using a first mask, performing color-processing with respect to the video signal, and dithering the color-processed video signal using a second mask which is related to the first mask. Accordingly, dithering is performed using related masks, thus preventing poor gradation of video signal.

Abstract: A liquid crystal display (LCD) apparatus and a method of driving the LCD apparatus are provided. The LCD apparatus includes a panel unit including at least one pixel having a plurality of sub-pixels and a controller which inserts gray data into at least one pixel of the plurality of sub-pixels based on a frame period and a polarity of a liquid crystal of the at least one pixel.

The LCD apparatus includes a panel; and a controlling unit which inserts gray data into at least one pixel included in a pixel group. Accordingly, the stress on a liquid crystal is reduced and thus a residual image is prevented from occurring on a screen.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus which performs dithering to an input image, includes: an input value storage unit which stores an input value to generate a mask seed value corresponding to a single pixel in a unit area among a plurality of pixels displaying an image, wherein the unit area includes a first line and at least second line; and a seed value generator which generates the mask seed value corresponding to one of pixels in the at least one second line among the pixels of the unit area based on the input value stored in the input value storage unit.

Abstract: An image signal processing apparatus and a method thereof are disclosed. The image signal processing apparatus includes a random producing unit which produces seed values to a plurality of frames input for a predetermined period by using a linear feedback shift register (LFSR), and a dithering processing unit which carries out a dithering to input image signals by using the seed values produced by the random producing unit. With this construction, the apparatus can carry out the dithering without using a frame buffer, thereby allowing a high-definition image to be realized.

Abstract: A control method and a display apparatus are provided. The control method includes dividing a display part into sections; detecting output luminance levels which correspond to grayscale levels of an input video signal on a section by section basis; converting the output luminance levels by calculating calibration coefficients on a section by section basis and applying the calculated calibration coefficients to the respective detected output luminance levels to control respective maximum luminance levels of the detected output luminance levels to be a permitted luminance level; and setting up a calibration table based on the respective converted luminance levels and a reference luminance level. The display apparatus includes a display part which comprises a plurality of sections; a signal processing part; and a controller which detects output luminance levels on a section by section basis, converts the output luminance levels, and sets up a calibration table.
