  • Publication number: 20220310001
Abstract: A frame generation subsystem renders a sequence of frames and a display control subsystem provides a brightness control signal configured to control a brightness of frames displayed at a display panel via pulse width modulation (PWM) of the brightness control signal and determines a deviation in a duty cycle of a first PWM period of the brightness control signal from a default duty cycle resulting from a delayed rendering of a frame. The display control subsystem adjusts a duty cycle of at least a second PWM period to compensate for the deviation in the duty cycle of the first PWM period. The resulting average duty cycle of the brightness control signal over the two frame periods is approximately equal to a default duty cycle and thereby mitigates viewable flicker resulting from the duty cycle change caused by the delayed rendering.

  • Publication number: 20220301518
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for three sub-color correction based on two-dimensional graphs. In an aspect, a method includes obtaining an image to be shown on a display, determining three sub-color values of a particular pixel in the image, including a first sub-color value for a first sub-color, a second sub-color value for a second sub-color, and a third sub-color value for a third sub-color of the particular pixel, obtaining a representation of a two-dimensional graph of color-correction curves, selecting a selected color-correction curve to use to correct the first sub-color value based on both the second sub-color value and the third sub-color value, determining a corrected first sub-color value based on the first sub-color value, and outputting the image using the corrected first sub-color value instead of the first sub-color value.

  • Publication number: 20220044629
Abstract: This document describes techniques and apparatuses for a high-brightness mode on an organic light emitting diode (OLED) display. The techniques and apparatuses set a high-brightness value in a register of a display driver integrated circuit (DDIC) associated with the OLED display of on electronic device. A processor of the electronic device provides a fewer-pulses command to the DDIC, which adjusts a pulse number to control the OLED display at fewer pulses per period. A gamma correction is determined based on the high-brightness value and used to alter content to be presented on the OLED display. As a result, fewer pulses are used in combination with the gamma correction to provide content on the OLED display at a high brightness.

  • Publication number: 20220020323
Abstract: A method for driving an organic light emitting diode display having a first plurality of pixel lines having a first pixel density and a second plurality of pixel lines having a second pixel density higher than the first pixel density, the method including driving the first and second plurality of pixel lines with corresponding drive signals at a frame rate at which frames are displayed, where during each of the frames the drive signals have a pixel on time during which pixels in the pixel lines driven by the drive signals emit light and a pixel off time during which pixels in the pixel lines driven by the drive signals are dark, where the pixel on times and the pixel off times are varied between the drive signals to reduce variations in luminance.

  • Patent number: 11145256
Abstract: This document describes systems and techniques for dynamic control of scan signals in active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) displays. Displays in portable electronic devices, such as smartphones, include tens of thousands of pixels. Scan signals in the display control the brightness and color of individual pixels. A leading source of power consumption in AMOLED displays, however, is the parasitic capacitance in the scan lines that carry the scan signals. As the frame rate of AMOLED displays has increased, the frequency of scan signals and the associated parasitic capacitance has also increased. The described AMOLED display can dynamically control the number of pulses in scan signals to reduce power consumption without degrading image quality.
