    Abstract: A method for inhibiting the growth of protozoa in an eye care product is disclosed. The method includes the step of adding to the eye care product an effective protozoan growth-inhibiting amount of a polyvalent cation chelating agent. Methods are also disclosed for inhibiting the growth of protozoa on a surface of an eye care product by contacting the surface with a solution including an effective protozoan growth-inhibiting amount of a polyvalent cation chelating agent. Eye care products containing protozoan growth-inhibiting agents are also disclosed.
