  • Patent number: 6564768
Abstract: An intake system for an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle, which includes a first air intake 10, which is arranged at a point in the motor vehicle that is advantageous for air intake, and a second air intake 11, which is arranged at a point that is protected from road spray and splashes of water. The two air intakes 10, 11 end in a common line 12 that communicates with the internal combustion engine. In the first air intake 10, a moisture sensor 14 is arranged. When water enters into the first air intake 10, this moisture sensor emits a signal that actuates a solenoid 23 to move a pivotable valve 13. In a first switching position pivotable valve 13 closes the second air intake 11 so that no air reaches line 12 from the second air intake 11. In a second position (shown in broken lines) pivotable valve 13 closes the first air intake 10 so that air reaches line 12 only through the second air intake 11.

  • Patent number: 5399817
Abstract: A muffler arrangement includes a muffler with an essentially cylindrical housing having a face end with a central entrance opening and at least one exit opening arranged other than centrally on the face end. Baffles are disposed within the housing, the baffles being concentrically arranged pipe cylinders which extend alternatingly into one another and are closed at one end, for effecting a multiple deflection of gases traveling from the central entrance opening to the at least one exit opening. A coupling structure is secured to the muffler housing, for carrying the muffler in an operating position. The coupling structure has a central passage for connecting the muffler to an exhaust outlet of a machine, and has an other than central channel, surrounding the central passage, for connection to an exhaust gas output conduit for outputting exhaust gases from the muffler arrangement.

  • Patent number: 5271429
Abstract: A valve, particularly a pressure relief valve for the lubricating oil filter of an internal combustion engine, which includes a valve plate 11, a valve body 10 cooperating with the valve plate, a valve spring 14 and a valve hood 15, the valve spring 14 being supported on the valve hood 15 and exerting a force on the valve plate to seal the opening between the valve plate and the valve body. A cylindrical guide 24 is provided at the upper end of the valve hood, and the valve plate 11 contains a blind bore 25 which receives the cylindrical guide in order to guide the valve plate.

  • Patent number: 5232115
Abstract: A cap for closing a tubular opening, especially the opening of an oil filler tube, which cap comprises a first part or cover part 12, which can be attached to the tubular opening by a bayonet lock, and a second part provided as an inside part 13, which is freely rotatable on the cover part 12 and is attached to the cover part 12 by a snap fastener 22. On the inside part 13 is a gasket 14 which seals the tubular opening. Sliding contact surfaces 20, 21 are provided between the inside part and the outer cap, so that no shearing forces act on the inside part or on the gasket when the tubular opening is closed or opened, thereby substantially facilitating the closing and opening of the tubular opening.
