  • Patent number: 11124209
Abstract: A system for determining a location of a rail vehicle based on an radio frequency (RF) signal that includes at least one processor programmed or configured to determine that a first RF communication signal transmitted by a head of train (HOT) unit of a plurality of rail vehicles is received by an end of train (EOT) unit of the plurality of rail vehicles, determine whether a second RF communication signal transmitted by the HOT unit is received by the EOT unit during a time interval after a time at which the first RF communication signal was determined to be received by the EOT unit, and determine one or more locations of the plurality of rail vehicles based on determining that the second RF communication signal transmitted by the HOT unit is not received by the EOT unit during the time interval. A method and computer program product are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20190168728
Abstract: In a method of braking a number of rail cars of a train travelling on a mainline track, in response to a unique braking command provided to each rail car of a first subset of rail cars, wherein each braking command includes a level or percentage of braking the brakes of the rail car are to assume, the brakes of the rail car are set to level or percentage of braking included in the unique braking command provided to the rail car. Thereafter, in response to a unique braking command provided to each rail car of a second, different subset of rail cars, the brakes of the rail car are set to level or percentage of braking included in the unique braking command provided to the rail car.

  • Publication number: 20190161103
Abstract: Described are a system, method, and computer program product for automatic inspection of a train including one or more locomotives and/or railcars. The method includes activating, or causing the activation of, at least one scanning drone including at least one sensor configured to obtain primary inspection data of the train. The method also includes communicating at least one set of scanning drone operating instructions configured to cause the at least one scanning drone to obtain the primary inspection data along a travel path associated with the train. The method further includes receiving the primary inspection data from the at least one sensor. In further non-limiting embodiments or aspects, the method includes activating, or causing the activation of, at least one micro drone including at least one sensor configured to obtain secondary inspection data of the train.

  • Patent number: 8344877
Abstract: A safety system for providing early warning notifications to an authorized track worker performing official duties along a rail road network is disclosed herein. The safety system determines the position of the authorized worker and determines an estimated time to collision between the authorized track worker and an approaching rail vehicle. The result of the safety system is that the track worker has enough time and sufficiently accurate warning that will enable the track worker to move to a point of safety so as to remain unharmed by the approaching rail vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20120068951
Abstract: In a system and method of image display, an image projector is positioned to back project (or rear project) an image on one or more platform doors disposed between a passenger platform of a train or people mover station and a pathway of the train or people mover. The image projector is positioned on the pathway side of the one or more platform doors. The image projector back projects the image on the one or more platform doors such that the image is diffusedly transmitted through them for observation by passengers on the platform side of the station. The back projected image is oriented such that characters or words in the image have a proper left-to-right, or right-to-left, orientation for reading by passengers on the platform side of the station.
