Abstract: An intraocular device for implanting within a patient's eye for enabling the eye to alter its focusing power includes an optic member, preferably in the form of an optic, which is designed to locate in the patient's eye in the line of sight such that the patient sees through the optic. The device further includes means for altering the shape of the optic to alter its focusing power and thereby alter the focus of the patient's eye. An implant for insertion into a patient's eye is also disclosed, the implant including an artificial lens to which the intraocular device is preferably attached, the artificial lens and the optic member of the intraocular device being positioned in the line of sight such that the patient sees through both.
