  • Publication number: 20150083858
Abstract: A method for utilizing a plurality of overhead bins within a passenger cabin of an aircraft. Each overhead bin is partitioned to form multiple storage spaces therein, wherein a number of storage spaces is equal to at least a number of passenger seats within a seat row. Each storage space is designated with a space number to form a numbered space, wherein each space number is the same as an assigned seat number within the seat row. A passenger is assigned a seat number and thus the corresponding numbered space. Access to the numbered space is controlled such that only a cabin crew member or the passenger with the assigned seat number can open and close the numbered space.

  • Publication number: 20130290221
Abstract: A luggage overhead bin system and method for a passenger cabin of an aircraft. A plurality of stowage compartments approximates an amount of passenger seats. A compartment number is labeled on each stowage compartment, wherein one or more of the compartment numbers are the same as a passenger seat number. An access control system capable of being overridden by a flight crew controls access to each stowage compartment. A locking mechanism locks and unlocks the stowage compartment in response to the access control system. Further included is a credential given to the passenger for enabling the passenger to provide the input to the lock, wherein the input is compared to an access control list within the control panel for the authentication. The above system allows for a fare structure which differentiates for travel fare with and without a carry-on piece of luggage ba d on use of the overhead compartment.

  • Publication number: 20110231334
Abstract: A system and method for providing a shipper with a carrier service based on mix and match of transit days and times for better matching of shipper's needs with carriers' services. The shipper inputs origin and destination, wherein distance is calculated between origin and destination zip codes and a zone is assigned corresponding to transit days. The shipper is then presented with options and cost to ship based on transit days. Shipper makes the decision and the computer presents the shipper with options and cost for delivery time based on the distance from carrier's facility. Shipper then makes a decision based on delivery time, and the package is routed through the appropriate network. Shipper can also make both decisions about day and time for delivery (including delivery by desired appointment window of one, two or such defined time period in minutes or hours) in one step.
