A second buffer stores second media packets therein received from a second media stream. The first media stream and the second media stream include redundant media content. A combiner reads media packets from each of the first and second buffers, and the combiner discards a given duplicate media packet read from one of the first or second buffers that has been identified as being identical to another of the media packets read from the other of the buffers based on analysis of a predetermined identifier in each of the media packets read from the first and second buffers. The combiner provides an output stream of media packets that includes only one of the identical media packets read from the first and second buffers.
