  • Patent number: 9955460
Abstract: In one aspect of this disclosure, control information and data are carried in the same subframe in order to reduce control overhead. A method, an apparatus, and a computer-readable medium for wireless communication are provided. The apparatus may be a first UE. The first UE determines a data block to be transmitted to a second UE. The first UE determines a first resource in a subframe for carrying the data block and determines a second resource in the subframe for carrying control information associated with transmitting the data block. • Patent number: 9848454
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for switching a mode of operations in device to device (D2D) communications. A UE within the coverage area of a base station may communicate directly with other UEs using a centralized transmission resource schedule. Prior to experiencing radio link failure (RLF), the UE may determine that switching parameters have been met and transition to an intermediate mode based on a distributed transmission schedule using a pool of resources established by the base station. In one example, the switching parameters may be received from the base station in a connection response message. In another example, the UE may send a switching request to the base station prior to initiating the transition to the intermediate mode. In some cases, after the transition to the intermediate mode, the UE may experience a radio link failure and transition to a distributed mode using a predetermined pool of resources.

  • Patent number: 9826460
Abstract: An efficient approach for a mobile device apparatus that is out of network coverage to communicate with the network is desired. The apparatus may be a user equipment (UE). The apparatus receives one or more device-to-device (D2D) signals respectively from one or more proximate UEs. The apparatus measures signal strength of the one or more D2D signals based on signal strength of one or more resource elements used for receiving one and/or more reference signals of the one or more D2D signals or signal strength of one or more resource elements used for receiving one or more data parts of the one or more D2D signals. The apparatus selects one of the one or more proximate UEs as a relay UE based on the measurement of the signal strength of the one or more D2D signals, to communicate with the base station via the selected relay UE.

  • Patent number: 9788328
Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided. The apparatus of a device-to-device (D2D) link receives from a base station an indication of an acceptable level of interference that the base station can tolerate on an uplink resource. The uplink resource is allocated to a user equipment (UE) for a wide area network (WAN) transmission. The acceptable level of interference is a level of interference that the base station can tolerate on the uplink resource while the base station receives the WAN transmission from the UE. The apparatus determines a level of interference to the UE's transmission at the base station and performs a D2D communication on the uplink resource allocated to the second UE for the WAN transmission if the determined level of interference is less than the acceptable level.

  • Patent number: 9756557
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for refining, e.g., reducing, a paging area corresponding to a user equipment device, e.g., a cellular inactive UE device. Various embodiments are well suited for communications systems in which user equipment devices participate in peer to peer communications networks in which direct user device to user device communications are employed. A user equipment device participating in a peer to peer network transmits discovery signals. A femto base station and/or a cellular active UE device in the local vicinity of the UE device transmitting the peer to peer discovery signal eavesdrops on the peer discovery signaling and detects the presence of the cellular inactive UE device. The detection of the cellular inactive UE device is reported to a MME. The MME determines a paging area corresponding to the detected UE device based on the reported information and the location of the reporting device.
