Patent number: 6792776Abstract: A high efficiency water valve member for a washing appliance includes a hot water valve, a cold water valve, and a low cold water valve. Associated with the hot water valve, the cold water valve, and the low cold water valve are a hot prime mover, a cold prime mover, and a low cold prime mover. These prime movers move their respective valves between their open and closed positions. When filling for a hot wash the hot prime mover and the low cold prime mover are energized to open the hot water valve and the low cold water valve. The cold water valve remains closed. For warm washes all three solenoids are activated to open all three valves. For cold washes the cold prime mover and the low cold prime mover are energized either together or alone to open either or both of the cold water valve and the low cold water valve.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2001Date of Patent: September 21, 2004Assignee: Maytag CorporationInventors: Jordan S. Bruntz, Scott A. Merkle

Publication number: 20030079507Abstract: A high efficiency valving system for a washing machine includes a three coil water valve. The valve is designed for specific flow rates for each port, with one coil controlling the hot flow, and the other two controlling the high cold flow and a low cold flow. When filling for a hot wash the hot coil and the low cold coil are energized. For warm washes, all three coils are activated. For cold washes, the two cold coils are energized.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 26, 2001Publication date: May 1, 2003Inventors: Jordan S. Bruntz, Scott A. Merkle

Patent number: 5934109Abstract: An improved front loading washing machine is provided with additive dispensers located in the shroud. The dispensers are integral with the shroud so as to have large upwardly disposed mouths for receiving additives, such as fabric softener and bleach. The dispensers are covered by the door when the door is closed, and thereby hidden from view. The position of the dispensers adjacent the front and top of the washing machine provides for easy access for filling the dispensers with desired additives.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 1998Date of Patent: August 10, 1999Assignee: Maytag CorporationInventors: Lynn E. Patent number: 5840581Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved method for generating somatic embryos from mature plant tissue. The treatment methods of the present invention use a combination of disinfestation procedures and plant growth regulator compositions which induce unequal cell division. After forming and maturing the somatic embryos on suitable growth media, the mature somatic embryos are desiccated and cold stratified resulting in an dramatic increase in the percentage of somatic embryos which may be converted into plants.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 1996Date of Patent: November 24, 1998Assignee: International Paper CompanyInventors: Daniel T. Patent number: 5442344Abstract: A data acquisition system having selective communication capability to enable the data acquisition system to communicate with other data acquisition systems. The probe of the present invention initiates communication with a data acquisition unit located in an appliance. The data acquisition unit maintains a collection record which indicates the current setup and counts of the appliances. When the probe communicates with the data unit, it identifies itself and based upon this identification, the data unit responds with a particular collection record which is compatible with the probe communicating with the data unit. In addition, if the probe is used to setup a data unit, the probe decides what type of setup record to send based upon the collection record received from the data unit.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1994Date of Patent: August 15, 1995Assignee: Maytag CompanyInventors: Scott A. Merkle, Douglas A. Ochsner
