Abstract: A computer operating system and media player are provided in which an integrated desktop environment is provided wherein a separate window is not necessary to operate the media player or perform other functionalities. In one embodiment, the media player controls are situated in a particular location on the desktop while the remainder of the desktop is available for internet, media player, e-commerce or other functionalities without opening separate windows. A cache memory management system also is provided in which free memory regions are used for the storage of data available for purchase or usage.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for ordering products using an editorial content provider. The editorial content is displayed to the user preferably as an electronic magazine. The electronic magazine includes magazine page numbers and navigation controls that enable a user to browse the electronic magazine in a manner similar to a conventional paper magazine. The editorial content includes user selectable links to products identified in the editorial content. A user may select the user selectable link and be presented with a product purchase page associated with the product identified in the editorial content. The product purchase page enables the user to place an order for the product. A third-party product supplier may present the product purchase page.

Abstract: A system and method of conducting electronic commerce is provided in which phantom advertising response clicks are reduced by inhibiting automated click-through access to an advertised Internet website. A security system is provided that makes it difficult, if not impossible, for automated systems to gain click-through access to an advertised Internet website without human intervention. An interim landing page is provided by the retailer to generate click counts reducing the phantom percentage contained. Passage through the interim landing page is required in order to gain access to the retailer's advertised web page.

Abstract: Systems and methods integrate and provide platform independence to shared component objects. A host is targeted for a mobile device and registers software components. Upon a request for services by an application program, the host finds and facilitates the creation of instances requested by the application program, thereby providing platform independence to the application program and the developer thereof. A module, deployable unit of software components, is also an addressable and programmable object during a run time, thereby facilitating implicit registry of software components on the target device and reducing storage space required on a target device, as well as the CPU processing power. The module also provides module-wide variables, thereby enabling distinct instances constructed from classes contained within the module to share common variables.
