  • Patent number: 7076529
Abstract: Systems and methods for delivering a notification of an email arrival to one or more customer premises equipment to alert users that an email has been received at a mail server. The systems and methods comprise receiving a message on an application server where the message includes at least an email addressee. The application server uses the email addressee to lookup a subscriber's directory number or an internet protocol address and user name associated with the email addressee. Based at least in part on this information, the application server sends an instruction a service control point (if the lookup returns a directory number) or to the internet protocol address (if the lookup returns such an address). If the instruction is sent to a service control point, then the service control point causes an advanced intelligent node to initiate a call to the subscriber directory number and send a signal to the telephone customer premises equipment.

  • Patent number: 6970545
Abstract: An advanced intelligent network system for managing and routing telephone calls from a calling party to a subscriber to a privacy screening service. The system routes the calls according to whether the calling party number is known and public, in which case the call is terminated in a routine manner; unknown, in which case the system plays an announcement asking the calling party to record his or her name; or known and private, in which case the system asks the caller for permission to override his or her privacy before routing the call to the subscriber. The advanced intelligent network system stores the subscriber's number in a display text field, thus enabling termination of the call to the subscriber irrespective of whether the subscriber number is private or public.

  • Patent number: 6968362
Abstract: An electronic bulletin board for use in a shared always-on environment wherein a user may manipulate messages from a remote location. The electronic bulletin board may be implemented via database and programming logic on an application server accessible from any network node, including wireless devices. The always-on environment may be set up on a computer or broadband internet appliance or other communications device. Remote users may perform operations such as updating an existing message, posting a new message, download messages, and the like. The bulletin board also supports shared messages designed for special purposes, for example, an electronic grocery list that is accessible from remote locations.

  • Patent number: 6909776
Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring a call directed to a telephony network-based voice messaging service (VMS) implemented using packet-switched data network telephone conferencing resources, such as an IP-based voice-over-IP conferencing system. The systems and methods use one or more media gateway systems providing an interface between a conventional telephony domain and packet-switched data domain. When a call is to be redirected to the VMS system, the telephony network routes the call via the packet-switched data network using the media gateway. An application server in the packet-switched data network maintains registration information associated with the subscriber. If the subscriber is logged onto the packet-switched data network, the conferencing resources are used to establish a conference call between the caller, the VMS and the subscriber.

  • Patent number: 6876735
Abstract: An advanced intelligent network telephone system for terminating calls to subscribers to a privacy screening service, when the calling party has a private telephone number. Privacy screening services allow a subscriber to manage and monitor incoming telephone calls, such that unwanted calls are not terminated to the subscriber. When a calling party dials the telephone number of a subscriber to a privacy screening service, the system manages the call according to whether the calling party number is known and public, known and private, or unknown. If the calling party number is known and public, the call is routed to the subscriber. If the calling party is known and private, the call is routed to a service node, which plays an announcement to the calling party, asking the calling party for permission to override his or her privacy.

  • Patent number: 6871064
Abstract: A cellular system for handling outgoing calls from a mobile station (1) including, a network element (8) being capable of recognizing voiced commands and names, and has in memory a database of telephone numbers corresponding to an array of names. The mobile station (1) connects to the network element (8) and the mobile station user communicates the desired outgoing call function to the network element (8) by voice. This desired outgoing call function may be communicated while the mobile station (1) is engaged in using supplementary services provided by the network element (8), at any operation point in those services. The network element (8) evaluate the voice communication, retrieves any corresponding information, including telephone numbers, and communicates the necessary information need by the mobile station (1) to carry out the desired function to the mobile station (1).

  • Patent number: 6813348
Abstract: A system and method of call origination on behalf of a subscriber using a service circuit node (SCN) in an Advanced Intelligent Network (AIN). An SCN provides assistance in the origination of a call on behalf of a subscriber. Upon completion of the assistance provided by the SCN, the SCN will attempt to originate a call to a third party on behalf of the subscriber. This invention preserves subscriber preferences for certain attributes including interexchange carrier (IXC) and billing information, without the need for data replication within either the SCN or the service switching point (SSP) hosting the SCN.

  • Patent number: 6807256
Abstract: A cellular telephone system is provided with a process and apparatus for screening an incoming call. The process is carried out by, and the apparatus comprises, a service provider (20) and a mobile station (30). The mobile station (30) answers the incoming call and places the call on hold. The mobile station (30) connects to the service provider (20) and places the service provider (20) and the incoming caller on multi-party hold. The mobile station (30) then signals the service provider (20) to begin screening the call. In response, the service provider (20) prompts the incoming caller for the incoming caller's identification and then communicates this information to the mobile station (30). Based on this information, the mobile station (30) can elect to accept or reject the incoming call.

  • Publication number: 20040114730
Abstract: Systems and methods allowing a third-party to redirect a telephone call according to an intended call recipient's preferences are disclosed. Calls received at a switch for a subscriber are suspended while a query is sent via AIN or other data networks to a communications center device associated with the called party number. If the call is intended for another user of the subscriber's telephone, a third party, the actual recipient of the call notification may redirect the call to the intended user without directly interfacing with the calling party. The user may select one or more options provided to route the call according to predefined profile information provided by the intended call recipient.

  • Patent number: 6711243
Abstract: Routing a call to a voice mail system using subscriber information maintained in a database associated with a service control point. Once a call is received by the service node and the service node determines that a voice mail call should be originated, the service node sends a message including a voice mail indicator and a subscriber identifier to the service switching point. The service switching point uses the subscriber identifier to query the service control point for routing information. The service control point determines the voice mail access number associated with the subscriber using a database associated with the service control point. The service control point responds to the service switching point by providing the voice mail access number associated with the subscriber and setting the original called party number and the last redirecting party number to the directory number of the subscriber.

  • Publication number: 20020146103
Abstract: A method and apparatus for routing calls for a subscriber based on the identification of the calling party or the originating line. Generally, the present invention operates to identify a calling party or originating line and then select a routing list based on this identification. Once a routing list has been selected, the call will be routed to the destination in the routing list. More specifically, when a call is received, an inquiry is made regarding the identity of the calling party or calling line. If the identification can be determined, then an attempt to retrieve a routing list associated with this identification is made. If a routing list has been provided for the identified party or line, the routing list will be retrieved. If a routing list has not been provided for the identified party or line, a default routing list will be selected for routing the call.

  • Patent number: 5896448
Abstract: A method and apparatus for routing calls for a subscriber based on the probability of call completion for a set of routing destinations. The present invention operates to route calls to destinations in a routing list, maintain a success indicator for each routing attempt, and route calls based on the success indicator. When a call is received, the routing list is sorted according to a call completion probability indicator associated with each destination. Destinations will be selected in accordance to the sorted order (325), and the call will be routed to that destination (350). If the routed call is not answered (355), the next destination will be extracted from the list and the call will be routed thereto (350). If the call is answered (355), an identification announcement is provided to the answering party (360), and processing will wait until disposition information is received (365).
