  • Patent number: 9817807
Abstract: A network-based services platform is configured to receive an application template that specifies characteristics of desired network-accessible service components for use by a network-based application. The network-based services platform searches from available services to find those having characteristics that are compatible with those specified by the application template, and returns an indication of the matching services to a client or developer.

  • Patent number: 9664892
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are disclosed for generating blue color illumination for use in a projection system. Light from a blue laser light source is reflected off a dichroic filter sequentially onto different color emitting phosphor coated light non-transmissive segments and onto a cyan color emitting phosphor coated light transmissive segment of a rotating color wheel. The different color light and cyan color light emitted by the phosphor back to the filter is selectively transmitted by the filter along a projection path. Blue laser light and cyan color light emitted by the phosphor transmitted through the color wheel is directed along a wraparound optical path back to the filter for reflection along the projection optical path.

  • Patent number: 9548052
Abstract: A user device receives audio data of a user reading aloud a displayed portion of an ebook, and converts a portion of the audio data to spoken-text data. The user device determines one or more similarity scores based on a comparison between the spoken-text data and text data associated with the displayed portion of the ebook, and ranks the one or more similarity scores to determine a reading location in the text data that corresponds to the spoken-text data. The user device determines a pronunciation score using the spoken-text data and pronunciation data associated with the text data at the reading location. The user device performs an action based in part on the reading location and the pronunciation score.

  • Patent number: 9519159
Abstract: An eyewear device for the primary purpose of concealing and camouflaging the wearer's eyes and eye movement during hunting activities. The eyewear device comprises an opaque shield and visor that covers, shades, and shadows the wearer's eyes and at the same time it greatly reduces ambient light that might be reflected from the eye so they are not visible to wildlife. The shield is designed with elongated openings that allow the wearer to have significantly unencumbered vision in a variety of daylight hunting conditions. The eyewear device's performance cannot be affected by fogging, scratching or precipitation. Furthermore the eyewear device's one-piece flexible design makes it durable enough to withstand the riggers of hunting.

  • Patent number: 9460221
Abstract: A user device for presenting eBooks generates a navigation history that allows a user to easily navigate to previously accessed positions within the eBook. The navigation history can be stored on an eBook server and shared with other user devices used by the same user. The navigation history may be generated by receiving actions regarding navigation within the eBook, an action navigating from a current reading position within the eBook to a corresponding navigation position in the eBook; filtering the received actions and the corresponding navigation positions to produce a filtered list of navigation positions; storing the filtered list of navigation positions in a navigation history; presenting the navigation history to the user; receiving a request from the user to navigate to a selected one of the navigation positions from the navigation history; and presenting a portion of the eBook at the selected navigation position.

  • Publication number: 20160253058
Abstract: A client (e.g., an eReader) includes a reader application module for presenting content to a user of the client. The reader application module displays an interface including a plurality of pages of a digital content to a user of a client. The reader application module identifies a point of interest included in a page of the plurality of pages of the digital content and assigns a physics model to the identified point of interest. The physics model may be selected from a plurality of physics models based on a type of the point of interest. The reader application module receiving an interaction from the user wanting to skim through the plurality of pages of the digital content and applies the physics model responsive to receiving the interaction from the user.

  • Patent number: 9413807
Abstract: A method dynamically assigns tasks for visually presenting data. A server receives a request, from a client device, to display a visual representation of data in a designated format. The request specifies one or more client device characteristics, including: client memory capacity; current client memory utilization; client processor capability; current client processor utilization; and the client's web browser. The server determines whether to render the requested visual representation at the server or at the client device based on several factors, including the client device characteristics and the size of the data set. When rendering at the client, the server sends the requested data to the client, including data necessary to render the visual representation in the designated format. Otherwise, the server renders the requested visual representation according to the designated format using the data, and sends the rendered image to the client.

  • Publication number: 20160023956
Abstract: A method of producing a ceramic weld, including identifying a ceramic first surface and a ceramic second surface to be bonded together, maintaining a non-oxidizing atmosphere over the first and second surfaces, and engaging the first and second surfaces to define a joint. An arc is generated between an electrode and the joint to create a liquid phase, and the liquid phase is cooled to yield a solid fusion layer, wherein the first and second surfaces are joined in the fusion layer.

  • Publication number: 20160023957
Abstract: In some examples, a technique may include positioning a first part comprising a ceramic or ceramic matrix composite and a second part comprising a ceramic or a CMC adjacent to each other to define a joint region at the interface of the first part and the second part. In some examples, the joint region may be heated using at least one of a laser or a plasma arc source to heat the joint region to an elevated temperature. The first and second parts may be pressed together and cooled to join the first and second parts at the joint region. In other examples, a solid braze material including a filler material and a metal or alloy may be delivered to the joint region and locally heated to cause a constituent of the filler material and a constituent of the metal or alloy to react. When reacted, the constituents may form a solid material, which may join the first and second parts.

  • Patent number: 9230296
Abstract: A method of controlling micromirrors of reset groups of a spatial light modulator (SLM) digital micromirror array is disclosed. In a first reset operation, the positions of a first subgroup of micromirrors of a reset group are set based on a first portion of a first bitplane and the positions of a second subgroup of micromirrors of the same reset group are set based on a first portion of a second bitplane. Then, in a second reset operation, the positions of the first subgroup are set based on a second portion of the second bitplane and the positions of the second subgroup are set based on a second portion of a first bitplane. In one example, subsets of alternating rows of micromirrors of the same reset group are successively set according to alternating data corresponding to different ones of first and second bitplanes.

  • Patent number: 9218334
Abstract: Embodiments of the present teachings relate to systems and methods for generating pronounceable domain names. The method includes proving a list of character strings; filtering the list of character strings through a first filter based on a phonetic model to produce a first filtered list of character strings; filtering the list of character strings through a second filter based on a character order mode to produce a second filtered list of character strings; and generating, by a processor, a list of pronounceable domain names based on the first filtered list of character strings and the second filtered list of character strings.
