The system includes a database of 3D printing service providers and a computing device that implements a 3D printing platform in a federated network of 3D printing service providers. The platform comprises units that act cooperatively to publish a pre-authorization for printing the 3D digital model or object granted by an owner of digital rights associated with the 3D digital model or object, receive a request for a 3D printing task, the request including a selection of the pre-authorized 3D digital model or object, and rank the plurality of 3D printing service providers based on a 3D printing identifier metric. An independent selection of a preferred 3D printing service provider is received, and printing instructions are transmitted to a 3D printer service provider.

More specifically, embodiments of the present invention provide for an automated, hand held device used to rapidly obtain samples of meat that are of essentially uniform size in order to test for the presence of microbiological contaminants in such meat, as well as methods of using the device. The device can be used to comply with laws and regulations concerning the testing of meat for microbial contamination during commercial meat production. The device is also lightweight and ergonomically constructed so that it may be operated by a single individual.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for automated resistance welding of materials is provided. The material may be thermoplastic material. The material has a layer of a second material adjacent thereto. The second material is a dissimilar material which may be applied as a film or a coating on the first material, or the second material may be a separate layer placed adjacent the first material. A heating element is placed in the interface between overlapping portions of the two pieces of material to be welded together. The layers are directly adjacent to the heating element. The layers can be consolidated onto the heating element if desired. The heating element can be composed of carbon fibers in a polymer matrix. The heating element is supplied with current to generate resistive heating. The heating causes melting of the layers adjacent to and contacting the material. Pressure is applied to the area being welded to fuse the materials together.
